I am a college student taking a semester off and planning to go to North Carolina from April to August, then starting back up in school in FL, I know that states have rules about how long you are allowed to live there until you have to establish residency (driver's liscense, auto tags, etc), but I didn't know what you are supposed to do if it's purely on a temporary basis.

Also, FL does not have state tax, NC does and I will be working up there, will anything strange occur when I need to do my 2007 taxes and I have to do NC state taxes?

If you are only going for the summer as it were and not planning to establish residency in NC, you have no problem. You only have a problem once you register a car, get a driver license or register to vote in NC. Then your Florida residency is gone and you are a new resident of NC.

temporary is generally okay... and students are given a lot of latitude.

just keep a FL mailing address and driver/nondriver ID during your time away and you should be fine.
