After my 2nd son was born I became hypothyroid. I was treated with 75 mg synthroid for 4 months then went off of it as per my doctor. I got my blood tested about a month after I came off of it and my levels were fine. The past three weeks I've been drinking a smoothie for breakfast and my smoothie has 1/2 container of tofu in it. Past couple of days I notice that I have a bit of a lump in my neck and it feel a bit tight to swallow. Does that sound like the thyroid? I am going to make an appointment with my doctor but thought maybe someone here knew.

My levels were at 15. Reason she stopped my medication was because I had the same thyroid problem after my 1st son was born but my levels went down on their own.

Yes, it sounds like your thyroid. I'm very surprised you went off the med, as most people don't ever get off it. I get the feeling your TSH was in range, but with a high normal. Even a high normal at most labs should be treated because its an outdated range. AACE has said that a TSH over 3.0 with symptoms should be treated, another organization (I can't think of offhand) has said 2.0.

When you get your thyroid tested, always test in the morning. Ask for a TSH, Free T4, Free T3, and an antibody test. For most, the TSH should be below 2.0 to feel well. If I were you, I'd find out what it was when the doctor stopped your medication. If it was over 2.0 he/she should not have stopped it.

I have put a few links below. I suggest you read up on being hypothyroid before your doctor's visit. It's the only way to get good thyroid care.

yes this sounds like thyroid goiter. I have had 3 removed, and finally my whole thyroid gland removed. Tightness when swollowing is a real sign dont dismiss this even if the doctors do I also had roots growing from the goiter around the windpipe that had to be removed. dont dismiss this . can be corrected easily
