I think that you should just get him a funny card with something like a football theme since he likes football and then since he dosent know you like him yet than thaat card should open uo conversation in the card you could also put some guitar strings since he plays the insturnment. you can get those from a music store

A guitar strap with his name on and his favourite football team's embalem on it. There used to be a guy who made them near where I lived but he stopped doing it; im sure there is someone on the internet who does it though.
