scourge of religion?
many people hold the view religion is bad, it binds people, it turns them into robots...
i'm a christian so i can't talk about what other religions say, because i don't know enough, but christianity certainly doesnt teach that people should be binded by rules etc. it also teaches values and morals that in the opinion of many, both theists, atheists and agnostics view as "good"
the bible actually tells us to have fun!! ok it tells us what not to do aswell but for me those rules can be beneficial. it doesn't cause any harm to me and if i think about it, it makes life better.
"So i recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people to do in this world than to eat, drink and enjoy life. That way they will experience happiness along with all the hard work God gives them." Ecclesiastes 8v15
i guess im a little off the point here, i accept that religion has a massive effect on the world, but is it really negative?
i know people who only do certain things, to help others because theyre religion says they should.
christianitys main teaching is to love god and love eachother!! how can that be a bad thing.
like i said i don't know all religious views so can't comment on them.

Well, I can say that in the XIX century, and even in the XX century some people in Europe, and perhaps in other places as well, used to say that with the guts of the last king of Italy they would hang the last pope.
As we know, Italy is now a republic. no more king, but the pope is still there. Sorry for you but that is not going to happen. You better get used to the idea.
The comunists also said that the new man, the revolutionary man, the comunist man would replace the old ideas, among them religion and, I don't remember what happened to the comunism in Europe

When people stop needing a "Big Brother" over their shoulders ot be decent, and realize that their are PLENTY of reasons left on earth to kill each other that have nothing at all to do with religion. Like Oil.
Personally i would like to see everyone raise arms against cattle. Have on big *** worldwide steak day. 1 steak for every man woman and child. Vegetarians can bring the salad. And wash the dishes. Vegans can just play in traffic that day.
AND YOU WILL KNOW ME BY MY FUR LINED COAT.

When we can accept what we are and stop trying to rationalize our faults.
Long ago humanity created religion to explain the things we could not comprehend (the sun moving across the sky, the moon, etc...)and also, because of our increasing intelligence, to set us apart (as higher beings) from the other animals.
When we can accept that death is good (IE: overcrowding) and a part of life, when we can accept our sexuality without having to rationalize, restrict, or defend it, when we can accept what we are without holding each others morals, beliefs, needs, wants, opinions, etc.. against them, THEN and only then will mankind have no more need for these religions that WE created!

Religion is the best card in the hands of politician, corrupt rulers and religious fanatics, war-mongers and haters to seek power and control.
Now, answer this: When will the human race finally be free of the categories I mentioned above so that the human race will be free from the "scourage" of religion?

it doesn't count number no matter if someone is non secular or no longer, both has the potential of being close minded. A more suitable precise fact is "at the same time as will human beings ultimately keep in mind that their close-mindedness is preserving the human race lower back?" it is no longer faith it really is preserving human beings lower back, it is their tendency to close themselves off to the universe and what it is attempting to inform them so as they could strengthen and evolve.

Well religion is repsonsible for the idea of scholarism, for education of the masses, for public and free education in many countries. In Europe it was the monks who kept alive the idea of erudition throughout the dark ages. the greatest wruiters of our time were taught by monks - James Joyce - was taught by the Jesuits and was indebted for them the rest of his life, Thomas More, Aquinas, Augustine - all these people who have infromed literature have been religious and intellectual heavy weights.

Honestly I doubt that will ever happen.
People are far to willing to accept behavior from a God that they would term purely evil if the exact same thing is done bya human!
Take Hitler for example. He didn't even commit genocide, he tried and for his torture / murder of million he is called evil. As he was!
Then look at the bible God. This God according to the bible commits genocide not just once but TWICE! 1. The Flood 2. Sodom & Gomorrah. These acts of genocide are jusitifed by Christians saying well they were warned or they deserved it! HOW SICK!
Then this God also slaughters innocent babies! Exodus 11:5 Slaughters them to what show how powerful he is??? WHAT KIND OF MONSTER IS THIS!! AND CHRISTIANS CAN ACTUALLY CALL THIS GOD ALL LOVING???
The only way we can be free of religion is if people wake up and realize that some behavior is not just evil if a human does it. TORTURE AND MURDER AND JUST PLAIN EVIL!!! REGUARDLESS OF WHO IS DOING IT!!

Human form of life is meant to inquire about religion and our relationship with God. Religion will prevail, human race without religion will vanish. As simple as that. Animals live without religion. They just worry about their basic maintenance, namely: eating, sleeping, mating and defending. Humans who do not care about religion are no better than animals.

Scourge :o. I think someone needs to go to confession! even if you dont belive in God if you think helping people live good, happy lives is bad I think you need to re look at what you belive :p.
