IF - and IF is something I would like to know the answer to as well - a female Muslim is not allowed to have physical contact with a man who is not her husband or a close relative, surely any female Muslims in the Police are in the wrong job.

Or is this story an early April 1st joke?

no, i'm afraid it's real. and like you said, i'd like to know how she's going to do any aspect of her job.

She has the right to refuse to do something which is part of her job. However, she must realise this has consequences. The consequences are that she will be sacked.

I mean, how will she arrest anyone? Why on earth did she apply for the job in the first place? I work in an office and if I said my faith meant I couldnt touch paper or use a computor, they would sack me.

There is nothing wrong with multiculturalism, but it goes both ways. She has to respect the fact than the police in the UK need to be in physical contact with other people. The political correctness culture which is totally paranoid of being seen as discriminatory can only go so far before common sense kicks in.

Reading thom jo d's letter I wonder why he/she is living here? Clearly we're not good enough.
Re the WPC, I have to say that the police in this country are becoming a joke,no wonder crime and vandalism is rife.
I saw two policewomen in our high street today, they were both less than five feet tall and thin with it. I doubt if they would be any use in a physical confrontation with criminals, and anyway they are probably 9 to 5 single mums who are now allowed to choose their hours. Most crime and vandalism is done at night time so they will miss all that. Leave it to the male officers to sort it out.

Boy, it sounds like the Brits have the same political correctness run amok we are suffering from here in America. Kind of nice to hear, even though it's totally rediculous!

She should not be permitted to be a police officer because she will not perform the main function of her job, which entails physical contact with men. She can be a parking enforcement officer, I guess. Absurd.

Taken from article..."There is a standard between personal and professional life. A passing-out parade is a personal event. You are not fulfilling a professional duty there."

Exactly. What the hell are you all going on about?. Why is it that bloody narrow minded Brits cannot respect customs and etiquette of people from other cultures? Who says hand shaking is right for everyone? This woman may well have felt very uncomfortable about it and so simply, that should be respected.
You HAVE a multi culture here now so get used to it. The fat scruffy litter dropping British have NO culture, other than getting pissed every weekend, urinating or pewking in shop doorways, yelling at football players and gawping at T.V. or perverted tabloid papers. A fraternity of sad tossers !
The Police are a bloody joke in Britain for the most part and who knows where this creep had his grimy hand before arrogantly assuming everyone should shake it ? The recruit officer completed her training successfully and her primary function is to serve the public, not bow and crawl to some pompous fascist. Good for her and for showing individual courageous dignity !

It just proovs that this multi cultural nonsence has gone way too far. and then put political corectness in the mix and why not add discrimination and we can even find several more to go along as well.

Sure am glad I left the west for a more civilised place to loive.

Yes more civbilised.

Europe sure has gone to the point where they will tolerate anything and when it all falls down around them who are they going to bleme this time. Oh yes it has happened before.

i imagine that in case you pick to stay and artwork in a particular usa, then you surely ought to adhere to their customs. In my previous workplace, we had a male and a lady proprietor, and the female become telling us quicker or later about particular adult males they have executed agency deals with who might want to communicate totally to the male proprietor and ignore about her. After a pair of cases of this, she might want to stress her hand out to the guy upon assembly and make him shake her hand and well known her as an equivalent. and that i imagine that become really correct - she worked demanding to get to the position she become, why ought to she be made to experience inferior merely because of a few different person's backwards customs? If she had refused to shake hands with him because of his race/faith, then she might want to were accused of being a racist. yet sexism is continually excused less than the guise of "non secular freedom" and different political correctness.
