Population does not count in humanity. U.S has little population than India still their people are always ready to help for any cause but we the people of India always think 100 times before donating blood to somebody, we always think for ourselfs first but we don't realize that little bit of blood donation can save the lives of many people. Our educated youth is educated only till books but not to humanity and attachment and the main reason for this is the modern century on which we are living, our life is so busy that we don't have time to think for others or for others welfare.
If we really want to do something to protect our people and for the sake of humanity thenwe should start to think positive and to react like a true citizen of our country.
There are number of organizations who collect blood but the majors are ROTARY CLUB, LIONS CLUB & RED CROSS.

Correct your figures buddy. It's not 5% of us. it's somewhere around 22% and that's a good figure. Out of 150 billion of population all that are below 15 and above 50 are vulnerable to blood donations. Of the remaining figure there are few with physical disorders like aneamia, low heamoglobin count, Blood pressure, and a lots more. Now off the remaining healthy people, of 33 crore donate blood every now and then, I assume that's a good figure. Although they need to be more frequent in their action.
Figures of people dieing due to unavailibility of blood is far less then the figure dying due to accidents. Accident victims are more in need if blood than anybody else. But because of untimely reporting system - like the hospital department didn't inform on time, or the person ran out of time by the time it reached the hospital, or probably we the citizens didn't report the accident; these victims meet the ill-fate.
Secondly the reach of blood banks. The total toll of private blood banks along with the hospitals blood banks and the institutional blood banks is far less. This is something that needs to be taken care of. The more the number of blood banks, the more donors you will find.
:-)

Blood is elixir of life.Blood can be collected only from human donors who are healthy.Storing and handling of blood and blood products need proper facilities and personnel. These are some the causes of shortage of blood in our hospitals. Many hospitals are ill equipped for handling an emergency needing blood transfusion.Only in cities all expert Doctors and hospitals with blood banks are now available.
In an accident situation normally the victim will loose a large amount of blood. The immediate first hour is called golden hour as it is very critical for patients survival.Where blood loss is heavy or there may be a situation where many are needed blood, the Doctors can do little to save the victims without the support of the community .
In villages and remote places patient 's needing blood is at the mercy of god as it will take time to organise a blood transfusion.
Therefore it is essential to have a list of healthy blood donors in all hospitals. Also as a responsible community we can conduct camps with the help of Hospitals in our locality and also seek help of Lions Club or similar voluntary organisations for such task..
Our Republic Day is nearing. You can look this as an opportunity to conduct such a camp and set an example for others. If we all try to donate blood then no one will die due to non availability of blood in India.
