Hay: Grass cut or mown, and dried for use as food for livestock.

Hay is dried grass, and straw is the stalks of wheat after the grain has been taken off. It's much coarser in texture than hay and is yellow. Hay is used for food, and straw as bedding material.

Hay is dried grass. Straw is the dried stalks of a crop either barley, corn or wheat. Hay is used as feed and Straw is used as bedding mainly - however some straw can be used as feed as well. such as barley staw used in chaff.

Hay comes in the form of alfalfa, and grasses which is harvested to feed animals, straw is what is left over from combining, ( separating the seeds the stock )wheat, barley, oats and etc. but not corn, and is used as a beding for animals..

All the above answers and straw usually does not have any of the seeds on it like you see on hay.

Hay is fed to animals and straw is used comercially for bedding, stuffing pillows and other stuff..oops, pardon the pun. The hay is finer textured and straw is course. Hay is greener in color when first baled....straw is yellowish brown....had enough????

Many grasses are used for feed. If they are cut with the grain heads on and fed they are called hay. If the grain heads are harvested and just the stems are cut then the stalks are called straw and used for bedding.
