Gene Scott was an excellent teacher of the Word.Unfortunately his ego was huge.He liked to get off into the outer regions of Biblical teaching such as the Great Pyramid, the story of the Bible contained in the stars, the lost ten tribes of Israel becoming Britain and the U.S. which was fine and extremly interesting. The problem that I had with him was,he railed against "legalism" and yet used it when it came to the Tithe and all it included. He was a master at making one feel guilty for not giving enough. But I thought he was great and there won't be another one like him that's for sure.I started listening to him in 1982.He would never say give him everything, that is not true at all.Besides he is dead now so what does it matter.

As a long time parishioner, I am constantly perplexed on how anybody who honestly and seriously listened to Dr. Scott could ever possibly come up with the idea that he wanted his supporters to give him everything. That was never the case and as a matter of fact, he admonished people on numerous occasions for ever giving more than 25 percent, an amount that was established by him as a not to exceed amount. This amount was set under the assumption that it included all three tithes and offerings (including the annual first fruits and tabernacle). It was never a “must do,” but rather a faith opportunity for the giver to further trust God for provision. He taught that the tithe was to act as a governor so that one didn’t give away all that they had. All that was ever expected of one who chose to tithe was 10%; anything else was between them and God. Everyone else: it was “support in some manner.”
Now then, as to how Dr. Scott’s teaching is different from mainstream Christianity (TV ministries excluded because they’re a whole other animal) I can speak as one who was raised in the church and as someone who is actively pursuing her degree in Christian studies. It can briefly be summed up, as it’s a teaching ministry. He taught from the Bible and explained what it was said in an educated manner. He took the time to go back through the oldest of manuscripts and brought the Scriptures to life so that you can understand what was really being said and thus apply them to your walk of Faith.
He taught that Faith was more than just creeds or belief, but an action, a verb if you will, and that Faith is when we act on the Promises of God because we trust God and that what He says is true and He will bring it to pass.
He taught of God’s grace and mercy and that going to the Table of the Lord was more than just rote ritual, but an opportunity for thanksgiving and promise obtained.
He taught that it is by faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ that we are saved and brought under God’s grace and mercy and not a set of rules of behaviors created by man that gets us in.
He also taught by example that real men do love God and that Jesus came that we might have life and life more abundantly.
Truly the only thing that could possibly be considered legalistic was to practice good manners.
Yes, he was “in-your-face” with his freedom that he had in Christ and wasn’t afraid to call a spade a spade and do it colorfully, too. At least you knew where you stood with him…which is more than I can say about most people.
Dr. Scott went home to be with our Lord on February 21, 2005 and his wife, Pastor Melissa Scott is continuing the ministry and perpetuating the 30 plus years of his teaching.
As a supplemental note:
Dr. Scott had the unique situation of having a broadcast ministry, which he pastored as anyone else would their own local church and the world watched on as he did it. He wasn’t afraid to air his dirty laundry in public; a fact that caused some distress. The dissenting voices will attack on the basis of alleged “pastor worship,” the overzealous (re)actions of others in the pastor’s name and giving.
The more I study in school the more the very right on target Dr. Scott is proved. It doesn’t take a theology student to pick up readily available books written by the greats in Christianity and read them to see that I’m speaking the truth.

The only real difference is pastor worship. You give to your pastor to get through to God and buy entry to heaven. The
consequences are Gene Scott's clan diminish the
righteousness of having faith in God, obeying God's commandments and living as Jesus taught. Gene's people
seem to spend little time, money or effort for neighbors
their families or gainful employment. They're busy serving
Pastor Melissa Scott now.

His word based doctrine's the same. It was his pastor based doctrine settin him apart. Dr Gene Scott told God what to do. He alone knew what God was going to do and not going to do. Twisted bible interpretations to glorify himself Pastor, Best Messenger since St. Paul. Gene Scott freed people from pretentious rituals to yoke them in bondage to Gene Scott. Screamed and yelled if you didn't give him your food money while he flaunted fine wines and expensive women.

I watched him get cut off from his TV broadcast. I didn't hate him, but his 24-hour a day broadcasts got a bit old.
