It cost too much!
I will never understand how and why the American population treated the returning servicemen and women so shabbily. They were treated like criminals, and why? The government sent these young soldiers over there to fight, to fight for what? Many of them did not want to go, but were sent on numerous re-turn tours to Vietnam, and when they returned they were called "babykillers".
All of this while the Politicians in Washington were playing stupid games. I have often wondered if a President would be so eager to send his own son into harms way, they way our's were sent.

According to the World Almanac, the total number of casualties, including those killed, maimed, wounded, etc equals over 211,000.I could not find any monetary amount spent on the Vietnam war, but a conservative figure would have to be in the tens of billions.

I just read it was about the same as we have already spent in Iraq (in todays dollars). I have always thought it strange when people say how many lives were lost they never mention the two million Vietnamese, Cambodians and others. Now they do the same thing; three thousand lives, not a word on the 100 of thousands Iraqis.

You can not quantify the loss of face U.S.A. had in this war. They loss their pride, their men because of the arrogance of their leader. The stigma is still there, and again history repeat itself in Iraq. The leaders should heed to the voices of their people.
