When you are reading a description for car parts (that someone is selling), and the car part is an automatic transmission flywheel, what do the 3-digit numbers mean? Is it the size of the transmission? Here is an example:
Buick Century 1977 and 1980 305, 1977-1979 350

In this example, my question is referring to the "305" and "350". I know the other numbers are years, no facetious remarks please!!

305 and 350 are the size of the motor. While parts for these two engines are sometimes interchangeable, that isn't always so.
Good luck to you.

I am not very good with american engines, but I am very sure that has to do with what kind of engine you have. The 350 should be the bigger engine of the two. It looks like the buick century came with 2 engines, 5.0L and a 5.7L. The 5.0L is the 305 and the 5.7L the 350.

These numbers represent the total volume of the cylinder bores in a given engine .........you may relate this to 1600c.c. or 2000.c.c displacements in non North American autos. Usually, the larger the displacement, the greater the horsepower and torque values.......and alas the fuel consumption!!
Make sense????
