Well, the normal range for blood bilirubin is 0.1 - 1 mg / dl. Jaundice doesn't typically set in until the bilirubin level reaches 2.5. So basically, 1.5 is not serious, but the doctors are wanting to keep an eye on his levels just in case they keep creeping up, indicating a more serious condition they must treat.
High bilirubin levels in the blood (>2.5) will cause jaundice (yellowing of the skin) due to the liver not excreting it into the bowels as waste. Jaundice, or high bilirubin levels, can be caused by serious conditions such as hepatitis, obstruction of the bile ducts (such as tumors or gallstones), inflammation, scarring, accelerated red blood cell destruction, or drugs.
Also, certain medications he may be taking can cause increased results. These meds include allopurinol, anitibiotics, antimalarials, Diabinese, MAOI's, Rifampin, and vitamin A.

It could mean a couple different things, primarily there may be an issue with your husbands liver. Is he a drinker? Does he do IV drugs? Does he use Tylenol often? The level itself isn't too critical, if the doctor is confident it can wait another month I wouldn't worry

Normal range is between .3 - 1.4. His level is barely elevated by 1/10 of a point. Don't worry, just get it re-checked in a month and take it from there.

From the results of your tests, it would seem that your liver has so far endured the drinking abuse that you have subjected it to in the past year. You may have to slow down with your drinking though, as liver cells also grow older and you may not be so lucky if you continue abusing it with huge alcohol consumption. Good luck.

It could be ok, you could have some form of cancer though. Maybe get it checked for that too quickly. It'd still be at an early stage if you do.
