assuming that the Bible is the only word of God which I don't think it is... Archeologists are finding other Gospels on a regular basis...
It does say in the Bible that A woman is to be a mans "help mate" Isn't it kind of imposible for a person to help another person while being there mate if the two people are not at least equel to one another and the "help mate" being somwhat superior in some ways to the person that the help mate trying to help?
It does say "help mate" I don't think God meant that to be confused with a Stepford Wife... Also being some ones mate indicates that there are two people involved in the relationship there for is there ever really a need to assert authority over one another and if there is don't the two people invole in the relationship have to be equels or better?

Paul's writings state the women should not Usurp authority over the Church... which many take to mean that women shouldn't be preachers, head of households, etc... He even goes on to say that it is a law in the Old Test. A law that isn't there. There isn't a single law in the Old Test which states women should not be preachers or head of households or even leaders of armies.... And you are absolutely right, a help mate is one who shares the burdens. For all purposes they are equal. If the woman is not equal to the man, then it isn't marriage.... it's slavery. I think many people see the word "equal" and assume it means equal in all things... like intelligence, strength, etc... But I don't have to have strength that equal's my husbands in order to be considered his equal.

Another verse in the Bible practically destroys all of this mess... I believe it says "there are no greek or jew, no male nor female in Christ". So obviously everyone is equal. One is not placed above the other or put in a secondary position.

Something else I've noticed about this argument. It's usually started by men who don't have a woman. I've run across very few women who actually agree with this whole idea... even those who are married and take on the traditional role of wife and mother would not agree to placing a woman in a "slave" position... Even they consider themselves equal in a relationship...

Maybe this is one of the reasons why our divorce rate is so high?????

the first 2 or 3 verser that u refer to are not God speaking, those are ordanices that Paul put in place to the church or Corinth because of the reputation that the temple had for celebrations including prostitutes, belly dancers and such. Paul considered that the woman's openion should be given or discussed with her husband at home rather in the temple where women were valued so little. As u read (and study the bible and the history or the time) u will find that God valued women to the highest degree and used them mightly in His works. My friend, wheather u believe the word or not it is important to have your facts concerning your opinions. By the way, he wrote that letter to Timothy to convey to the church and that's why it's carried on in the book of Timothy.

The Bible doesn't say a woman can't have authority over a man generally -- like a boss at work, for example. But what 1 Timothy 2:12 says is: "And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence."

However, this contradicts other passages in the Bible where women clearly WERE teachers and leaders of men, yet there is no negative connotation. For example, see Acts 18:26, where Priscilla and her husband, Aquilla, taught a learned Jewish believer. Romans 16:1 refers to Phebe as a "diakonos" (mistranslated "servant" in KJV and NKJV) or "deacon." Romans 16:7 refers to Lunia (history proves this was a female name) as "outstanding among the apostles" [apostolos -- meaning one who is sent, not Apostle] (NIV) The Amplified Bible translates this passage as "They are men held in high esteem among the apostles." The Revised Standard Version translates this as "they are men of note among the apostles." The reference to Lunia being a man does not appear in the original Greek text. The word "men" was simply inserted by the translators, apparently because the translators' minds recoiled from the concept of a female apostle.

Given the contradictions, it's quite plausable that Paul's instruction to Timothy, a young pastor, was intended for his church ONLY. It's likely the women there were spiritually immature and unlearned, and therefore unqualified to teach anyone. Another example of an instruction only meant for one church may be found at 1 Cor. 14:34-35 regarding the noisy Corinthian women.

A man and wife should be equal in the marriage. A man should not think he is the boss and the woman does whatever he says cause that isnt what the bible teaches. The man is to love the woman as Christ loved the church. My husband and I share our thoughts on what goes on in this house. We make the decisions together. We are one flesh and we work things out together like God intended.

Both were created equal as there is no male or female before God. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus" Gal 3:28

However in the place of marriage both play different roles: the man to tend the garden while the woman is a help meet. For the bible declares that God said it is not good for man to be alone, I shall provide him a help meet. Gen 2:18. The bible also says that two is better than one for they both have a better reward for their labour. Ecclesiastes 4:9 Hence we see that the woman plays an important role in enhancing a man's life. The man received the command directly from God alright which inadvertently gives him a leadership role but the man can't succeed alone, which is were the woman comes in.

After the fall, God said something quite surprising but I guess it was to answer questions like this. He said in Gen 3:16 "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee". note the phrase "and he shall rule over thee" . I guess this must have been as a result of Eve initiating the process that led to the disobedience. Note also in Gen 3:17-19 that God punished Adam for not showing leadership to his wife as He expected him to.

In a marriage that is between Christians, the husband and wife are both given commands.

As you stated, a wife is suppose to be in subjection to her husband and this does not mean that she does not have certain things that she is better in than her husband, but that is the area of being "head" of the family a woman is suppose to go along with what the husband says.

Now a husband is suppose to make the decisions, but this does not mean he should do it without consulting his wife and considering her feelings and wants. He needs to think of someone else and not just of himself.

This is a dilemma. But two of Jesus' best friends were Mary and Martha. The women went to annoint his body and he appeared first to them. I believe he showed very high regard for women and the church would do well to emulate him.

As for the Old testament, Proverbs 31 tells us who the virtuous woman is, and she definitely wasn't a stepford wife. Marian, Moses' sister, certainly influenced things, and then there was Deborah the prophetess.

In Paul's letters, I think many of his comments were addressed to certain situations. He says women shouldn't speak in church, yet in another place the New Testament talks about women prophets. They can't be in leadership, yet most of the meetings were probably held in the homes of prominent women. Also, he refers to Priscilla and Aquila as his "fellow workers in Christ" and there are other instances of women leaders as well.

It's hard to sort it out between what is God's place for women -- which I think we often react to being less than the top dog because of our democratic culture and because so many men abuse their power. So I'd better quit as I'm start to ramble. Check out the book by Dorothy Sayers.

For as long as there has been living, breathing man, so too have there been immoral actions against women for sexual purposes. That's why according to women, all men are a******s, and according to men, all women are w****s. There has always been animosity and a feeling of superiority by males over the history of the world. That's the reason they call trhemselves "alpha males". I have never heard of an "alpha female" unless she's a dominatrix. That's where I can respect their work. They have the dominant hand over men all day.
