They are already a separate country. They also have a separate language not spoken in England.

A person from Scotland = Scots or Scottish
Whiskey from Scotland = Scotch

Hey there, I am scottish, and all though I dont live in Scotland right now, I go back to visit on a semi-regular basis.
Some Scots speak Gaelic, although the language is dieing, some schools are beginning to teach it again.
You can't speak "Scottish" you speak Gaelic. If your from Scotland however, you have a Scottish accent. And theres many different accents around Scotland, depending on where you live it varies greatly.
If you live in Scotland, and you speak english, you will still use a few words, that the Americans don't use, such as Awryt and such..(Awryt means how are you?/ are you all right)

Its not the Scots who want to be a seperate country, its the people who live in North Ireland, the IRA (Irish Republican Army) have been causing problems about that for decades.
Hope this helps you out.

The Scots speak English with a Scottish accent and they also use a few words that the English don't use (by the way, there are plenty of accents in the UK). They also speak Gaelic, but only a few people still speak, and the number of people who can still speak it is in decline, in spite of efforts to revive it.

America speaks English and is a country of its own. Same goes for Ireland, Australia, New Zealan or South Africa. So why should Scotland have its own language to be a separate country?

Life is a Miracle and Human decisions as well. It is not, genially speaking, necessary to have a separate language in order to have a separate state/country examples: English spoken in USA, Canada, UK, SAR, India, AU or NZ, yet peoples who speak THE VERY SAME LANGUAGE may decide to name it differently, examples: SERBIAN (Serb-Croatian) language (after ex-Yugoslavia felt apart) became Serbian, Croatian, Bosniak maybe even montenegrian (not yet but likely).

On the other hand, Scots HAVE their language (Scottish Gaelic), but just as Irishman (Irish Gaelic), DON'T USE it. Why, ????? So If somebody wants to make a separate state NO MATTER HOW LOGICAL IT IS TO HAVE A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE, does not have necessarily to have one.

Scotland does have a native language, Gaelic. But like many other languages is fading from the imposition from more dominant languages, namely English.

A Scot has a brain that is different from an English person.
An Irish person has a brain that is different from an English person. They all speak English, but their values and culture are different---i.e. the brain works differently!
