Think about it, everyone judges to some degree. It is our nature. If you say you don't you're a liar, to some degree you do.

I think it's because we don't want to admit our own imperfections, so we deflect them onto someone else, augmenting their flaws to make them seem terrible in comparison to our own.

For whatever reason, we human beings don't like to see things as less-than-perfect (maybe seeing flaws makes us feel unsafe in a big, unpredictable universe?), so we create social standards that help us control our environment as much as we can. When we catch someone making the same kind of human mistakes everyone makes, we hold the transgresser up as a negative example, when actually we all could be held responsible for similar mistakes at one time or another.

The problem is in making the caught person a deviant instead of recognizing that our tendency to make mistakes and to fail is universal. When we deny that it is in our nature to be flawed, we perpetuate the problems in our society by passing off our demons to scapegoats and refusing to take personal responsibility.

Yes we all judge, but its how we judge that makes the difference, the question is do you judge them by their mistakes or by their achievements, we shouldn’t judge someone by their mistakes, for that we all make mistakes. We should stop and see what their have achieved. This way we judge the facts, not the person. Some people judge to quick and do not consider the facts. We use the worst examples because it’s the easy way out. When we make a decision on a person, we should be reasonable. We humans are not selfish creatures, we are just insecure, and there are a lot of selfless people in this world.

Human beings are naturally selfish creatures. Look at Adam and Eve, they ate the fruit because THEY thought that THEY would be like God. It was all about THEM. Just like we think it's all about us, so when it comes to another person, we'll take something wrong that they've done and intensify it, so it can hide it from our mess. Adam told God the woman made me do it, so he just wanted to put the blame on someone else. When we judge, it gratifies us. As if, well I'm not as bad as I thought, because look at him or her. So that's why I think we do that, bringing the worst out of others, supposed to make us look a little better. But that's a lie. If we are to judge anybody it should be ourselves.

people often fall into a trap of characterizing a person by their worst mistake.... and it is not good... we should be humble enough to realize we might not be looking at the whole situation and only superficially. In same ways, it's the only way we can judge loking at the superficial limited things we know... but we are prone to decide based on too few things... only GOd is the righteous judge

It doesnt mean we should never make judgements, we have to, in order to live. we shoudl just be more cautious.

I am a Judge, so I kinda have to.

Well, not really, but it sounded good. The worst example reinforces our point to the greatest degree. Of course people will attempt to reinforce their point to the greatest degree possible.

evcaluating is not sin. Condemning is sin. Not wanting to be subjected to loving peer review is also sinful since scripture orders we exercise accountability. Nerxt time some dim wit says don't judge remember this. Mat 18, and letters to TIM

I try not to, judging isn't my job. You're right though, we all do it. I'd say if you're using YA as an example, most on here are the worst examples.
