I am a cutter off and on for a few years and i've decided to get some help for it so i went to a local meeting and met a girl there she told me she does the belt thing, i didnt know what t was and didnt want to look stupid asking what it was. Does anyone know what it is

I'd be willing to bet she meant auto or auto-erotic asphyxiation. It's pulling a belt or rope or cord around the neck until you lose conciousness, and occasionally life. The erotic part comes in for those who do this as part of their sex life, either with a partner strangling them or using cords and belts during sex, pulling them tight at the beginning of climax to enhance the feelings during it. It's extremely dangerous, and can be fatal.

well, when i was younger the belt thing was putting a belt on your neck and trying to pass out. but this can be accomplished by applying pressure with your palms to the carrotid artery in the neck. But it could be something entirely different now.

I think, she maybe speaking of auto-erotic asphyxiation; where a belt or rope is used to cut circulation to the brain while self stimulating. Our hospital has had two teens who died after doing this.

Next time you go to the meeting either go early or hang back after and ask the counselor (mediator) who is running the meeting.
