What substances are needed in order for a messenger RNA molecule to be translated into a polypeptide?

Ribosomes, transfer RNAs, amino acids, ATP, magnesium ions, and the enzymes that attach amino acids to tRNAs (amino acyl tRNA synthetase enzymes). If you google "in vitro translation system" you might find more details.
