Some people fare much better all their lives, specifically because they do not know themselves. A healthy state of self-delusion, you might call it. If these people knew themselves, they would be destroyed emotionally. Examples -- someone who thinks she's beautiful, but she really isn't; someone who thinks he's brilliantly talented, but he isn't.
Knowing yourself is not always best. Thinking positively about yourself -- no matter how "accurate"-- is better in many if not most instances.

Good point. But that's just your life as an individual. Maybe broaden your meaning of the word life, and I think it more importantly would be to help preserve the future of our planet, that we are quickly destroying and using up selfishly.
