My dogs are family. I've actually shared my ice cream cones with my dogs. I let my pitbull lick me as a reward for her. To each their own.

Dogs and cats are very clean animals as far as germs go, don't let surface dirt fool you, you'd have that too if you didn't shower every day. Now, I'm not french kissing my pets, but they are allowed to lick me. In fact, when a cat or dog licks you, they are showing affection and telling you that you are their leader. If I recall correctly the only thing that you can catch from a dog is rabies (which all dogs should be vaccinated against) and some parasitic worms, most of which are harmless and we have already or can catch from our environment and other people just as easily. You don't see too many humans getting dewormed though, so I wonder who has more, dogs or people? :)

Wash your hands before you handle food or rub your eyes or if you're just an OCD hand washer like me :)

Dirty? I guess. Too dirty? I guess wanting to pet a dog all depends on your dirt and germ threshold. You have germs in you right now and so do I.

The elevator button you push has been touched by someone else---who may have just gone to the bathroom and not washed his hands.

Do you ever swim in the ocean or go in a lake? Fish and other creatures eat, breed and eliminate in those bodies of water. Talk about dirty---swimming in fish pee? Yuck. So would you say ponds and lakes and the ocean are pretty, but not put your feet in on a hot day?

Yes, dogs can be dirty--but on the spectrum of "clean to dirty" my dog is at the clean end and cleaner than many young kids I know. Plus, you can't escape dirt.

If you don't want to pet a dog or be slobbered on, then that's fine. Make it clear to people with pets and don't let them push their pets on you.

Have a nice day.

Generally dogs don't have any more germs than your average person. Dogs aren't "dirty" creatures, they actually prefer to be clean. A lot of dog breeds will actually groom themselves like a cat!
I think dogs are cute from a distance, and up close, too! It's really fun to share your life with a dog, but to each his own...

My dogs can lick my hand anytime.... I think animals are cleaner than some people I know. My Dogs are not dirty creatures, they are part of my family. I assume that you don't own any pets....Im sorry that you will never know the love and companionship that a dog can give, since you wont get close enough to touch one.

I have five dogs and three of them sleep with me. (Boxers). I'm sure they have germs, just like I have germs. If anything, they may catch a cold from me. I don't let them lick me in the mouth, but I kiss them on the face all the time. I've never catch anything from them.

I think that maybe, you just don't like dogs or maybe have a little germ phobia. My Dad is that way. He won't pet them because he's afraid he'll get sick.

Let me guess,,, are you Muslim by chance??
Different cultures have many differences, most of which have their foundation in simplified solutions to a problem many years ago. People 2,000 years ago did not have the advantages of science that we enjoy today.
2,000 years ago there was no such thing as a Rabies shot, or annual booster shots, and there are diseases that people can catch from their pets. Top of the list would be Brucellosis, which has no cure once contracted.
All this adds up to it is a mistake to just poh-pho the beliefs of other societies.
I have had dogs all of my life, but I have also spent a lot of time learning about what I am doing. There are many dog owners that don't even know what Rabies is, let alone diseases like Brucellosis.

When I was growing up I was always told a dog's mouth is cleaner than a humans. They also said you could let a dog lick your wound (like a cut on the foot or hand) and it will heal faster. You let humans kiss you don't you.
A dog's lick won't hurt you and won't kill you. They are really like people too. I have one that smiles and has a sense of humor. The only difference is they can't speak English.

No. I think at times my dog's mouth is cleaner than some people mouths. I let her kiss me and I kiss her. Sometimes she kisses my lips and all over my face....and then I kiss my boyfriend. My boyfriend agrees that my dog's mouth is cleaner.

She chew on dental bones, I brush her teeth, and I take good care of her. I make sure her mouth is in top notch for anything. I plan on getting her teeth dental clean in the future.

Dog's germs are the least of my concern. At least I know where her mouth has been or what's it been on.

I would say that you must not kiss boys then. You never know where their mouth has been in the past (if you're dating them or in a relationship) or don't know just period if you just starting dating. But does that prevent you from kissing them....nope.

They could have an STD or STI in the past but it's been cleared up and you wouldn't know. Like I said I think my dog's mouth is cleaner than some people mouths.

Geez dont go near a cat then... they lick their arses and are in the top 3 of the animal kingdom for diseases.
Apparently dogs lick people both for the the salt on the skin and as a friendly gesture but like any training if you chastise them for it they stop pretty quickly.
PS have you ever heard of phobias?
