kaptian200... I served 21 years in our military... I think I have the capabilities to defend my country, our way of life, and most importantly help my family survive now that I'm retired and home with them.

No, America has basically depleted it's ground forces in the middle east. What would happen if America was attacked would be the invading force would initially have great success due to unorganization and no concentration of American forces to stop them, however, the average American citizen is armed and a very good shot. These people along with scattered enlisted men would begin organizing and putting up stiffer resistance, grinding any inward push to a halt. Once the military finally got their feet under them they would then be able to mount a successful counter attack.

Before I answer let me ask this question: Would you fight if we were attacked?

One of the reasons ( I believe) most enemies would think twice before actually launching an attack on this country is the fact that the civilian population is armed or could be in a very short time. The only way they could have a real shot at being successful is to attack with a very large force if we are talking about conventional warfare as opposed to nuclear warfare. Getting inside our borders would be difficult at best but once here they would be faced with literally millions of very pissed off Americans carrying weapons of all types and calibers. There are hundreds of thousands of US veterans that could and would form militias and fighting units that would give a whole new meaning to guerrilla warfare, I'm one of them, I was in the Army for 26 years and I'd fight to my death to defend my country with whatever means I had and for as long as it took to eject them from our shores.

As far as being prepared: If you're serious I would take a course in the use and care of weapons. I would buy a shotgun or rifle and know how to care for and use it. I would store it in a safe place where no one but you could get at it - don't want any children getting a hold of it and hurting themselves or anyone else - and periodically I would go to a sanctioned range and do target practice.

Judging by their performance in the past , do you really think we are ready to fight a war over here? Let's not get into something that serious. I live in New Orleans and during Hurrine Katrina and its aftermath, all levels of government from city to federal reacted like incompetent Deputy Barney Fife. At least Barney was comical. There was nothing funny about the government response to Katrina and its aftermath.

Yes, There are few countries with the means to send large troops to our country. China does have the means but because of the way the US has set up it's bases it would be hard to make a successful landing by sea or air. That leaves Mexico and Canada with the best shot at entry and even though there are some tensions between us I don't think that would happen.

Yes. Even given the total collapse of professional military command, the population is armed and supplied well enough to defeat the most determined of enemies.

I don't think there is a way to prepare a country for an attack. Especially not America. Which is why we are alway so dead set on fighting countries on their own turf. But I do think that we need to start thinking about it and preparing our citizens for the just in case. Maybe we should revert back to thinking the way they did in the 50's with the air rade trainging and bomb shelters. It will be a rude awakening but every little bit helps

I can't see a war in the conventional sense here. We may get a terrorist attack but not a sustained military campaign. And when the terrorist attack comes, we need to find them and kill them. And if a military attack happens, we need to take that country and return it to the stone age.

?????? The last time we had that was when we had the Civil War and thats because we were fighting amongst ourselves. I dont see how another country could just come over here and start a war with us.

That's one of the reasons why we need our troops home, now.... before it's too late! According to some people, the enemy is already here. They've been sneaking in small WMD for awhile now. It's only a matter of time unless our administration & our militia & secret service are on their toes. Calling CTU!
