I know some will say: I wear it on my right hand, but the question is: why are you "suppossed" to wear a watch on your left hand?

Actually most people wear their watch on their non-dominant hand so it won't interfere with writing, and since the majority of people are righties, they wear the watch on the left hand. Most lefties I know wear it on their right hand for the same reason, so it won't get in the way.

I think this is a custom that arose for purely practical reasons. I'm right-handed, and I think a watch would get in the way more if I wore it on my right hand while doing certain activities, like writing. And the majority of people are right-handed, therefore, the watch doesn't get in the way of the majority of people if they wear it on their left hand.

mstrywmn's answer is interesting, but my guess is that they put the little knob on the right side of the watch so that right-handed people could wind the watch while on the left wrist. They could just have easily put the little knob on the other side, I suspect. So I think the tradition of wearing it on the left wrist came first.

Happiness!

Most people wear watches on their left hand because they are right handed. They do more stuff with their right hand, so wearing a watch on your left hand means that your less apt to scratch the face or break the watch entirely. I'm left handed, and I have always worn a watch on my right arm.

It's all personal preference! Usually a right-handed person wears a watch on their left hand, and a left-handed person wears a watch on their right hand!

Supposedly you wear your watch on the hand that you don't use as much because it is easier to look at. Like if you are busy writing you can glance at the watch and not stop. I am left handed and wear mine on my left wrist and I do have to stop to look at it sometimes.

Traditionally a wrist watch is worn on the non-dominant hand to prevent damage to the crystal. With scracth resistant crystals and all-around sturdier construction, the habit continues primarily to keep the watch from being in the way while working, particularly writing.

I was taught to wear the watch on my left hand from my mother. I'm just used to wearing it there now.

The real reason: Before watches were battery operated they were wind up. Since most people tended to be right handed, it was situated on the right side of the watch. So, one wore it on the left wrist so they could wind it up with the right hand. Get it?

Because the little knob is on the right side so you can turn it with your right hand.
