Ok, short answer: normally symptoms last between 12 and 60 hours; most people are completely better in one or two days.
Bit more info...
It's the general term for a group of nasty viruses (called 'noroviruses') -- they're the most common cause of gut/stomach upsets in the UK.
If it's you who's got it (if so, wishing you better) or you're caring for someone who has it, there's a good page from the NHS website giving more info on preventing its spread.

It depends on the individual - some people seem to hang on to it for a couple of weeks, other just 3 or 4 days. If a person is run down that can also exacerbate the condition and they will be ill for longer.

* Fever
* Headache
* Tiredness (can be extreme)
* Dry cough
* Sore throat
* Nasal congestion
* Body aches
These symptoms are usually referred to as "flu-like symptoms."
Anyone Can Get the Flu, But the Disease Is More Severe for Some People
Most people who get influenza will recover in one to two weeks, but some people will develop life-threatening complications (such as pneumonia) as a result of the flu. Millions of people in the United States — about 5% to 20% of U.S. residents — will get influenza each year. An average of about 36,000 people per year in the United States die from influenza, and more than 200,000 have to be admitted to the hospital as a result of influenza. Anyone can get the flu (even healthy people), and serious problems from influenza can happen at any age. People age 65 years and older, people of any age with chronic medical conditions, and very young children are more likely to get complications from influenza. Pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinus and ear infections are three examples of complications from flu. The flu can make chronic health problems worse. For example, people with asthma may experience asthma attacks while they have the flu, and people with chronic congestive heart failure may have worsening of this condition that is triggered by the flu.
The Flu Season
In the Northern hemisphere, winter is the time for flu. In the United States, the flu season can range from November through March, and even past March in some years. During the past 21 flu seasons, months with the heaviest flu activity (peak months) occurred in December in 4 years, January in 5 years, February in 9 years, and March in 3 years.

it all depends how long it takes the virus to run it's course. Of course it's extremely important good hygiene is maintained throughout the infection as it is contagious. So handwashing and ensuring facilities are clean is very important or you'll end up recontaminating.

Best solution - don't take anything for my son who is 4 years old for 24hrs. In my sister case (30) who ate fresh squeezed orange juice helped - ensure they are not straight from the fridge.

you're a similar as me so i understand what you're dealing with with the emetophobia! purely make advantageous you wash your fingers previously ingesting and getting waiting nutrients. the best element is that the norovirus isn't airbourne, the purely way you're prepared to capture that is when you're next to someone who's throwing up and also you inhale to fumes of it. purely undergo in concepts hygene and hand washing and also you should be positive.
