the car has 200,000 miles on it in good running condition, but recently the car began iddling irradicly. it is a manual transmission and when i have the car in nuetral or am on the clutch it revs to about 2k rpm and lowers to .5k rpm. it doesnt stall, but it is annoying. when the car is driving the problem is non-existant. anyone had a similar problem with the 1.9L escort? which sensor?

It sound like the I A C motor (idle air conrtol).We have an escort and it did the same thing

It sounds like you have a faulty Idle Air Control Valve. Get a technician to check it for you. It's not something that is easy to do yourself.

I would have to say that it's is an oxygen sensor! I have had three cars that have done this and all three times it was the oxygen sensor. I know what you mean by saying that it is annoying. It will do this until you fix them so good luck

i just wanted to say "HI!" b/c i am a fellow 95 scort driver and i love my scort!

it has been with me on so many road trips and it just keeps kickin! my husband hates it and wants to blow it up, but i love it and will be sad to see the day it dies.

it's an automatic, though, so i can't help you much with the transmission problem. have you taken it to be checked out?? could you be losing a gear??

first open the hood. get a can of WD-40, and sprat it all over the ares ware there are throttle springs and cables, stepper motors, and any thing that moves.
Then if your problem does not clear up. take it to a trusted NAPA service center and let them take a look.

check for intake manifold leak,you might have to replace gasket
