I have no clue about decorating, colors, etc. Should I buy accessories first and then paint the walls to coordinate with the decorations, or paint the walls first and then find things to "match"?

I would prefer all the walls to have color--no white or off white.

I generally pick the colors for a clients place first and then pick the furniture and accessories. Often times the colors are neutral colors with color so it makes it easy to decorate with them. Take a look at some of these photos and perhaps they can give you some ideas.

The decorating shows i watch it seems like they find a focal object and go from there. It could be artwork with favorite colors, Dishes, Curtains etc. We personally painted and carpeted first and then bought furniture to match. It is easier to change your paint color every couple years then to go buy new furniture and accessories every few years.

I might suggest maybe start out by painting 3 walls a white/cream/natural colors. Then paint 1 accent wall a color you might want to experiment with. You can always change it. It's just paint. Good Luck !

Permits, permits, permits... every stage, every subtrade... the town office will know you in no time! When you pick up the corresponding permit, find out how much notice you need to give the inspector and how often and at what stages he needs to come for his specific expertise.

Pick out your wall colors first.
