I never lie so you and others might not like what I am going to say here, but what they heck? Wait I always wanted to say this: “You can’t handle the truth”! Cool huh?

I live near the Norfolk Naval Base (Worlds Largest Naval Base) and laugh each time a ship goes to sea. All the Navy wives get on TV crying expressing horror at being left alone for six months, fearing their love one might be injured, mad because they do not know how they are going to make it for six months. I know our Navy went to sea in World War I and II and Korea for years! At that time, they might actually be killed in combat. My cousin served on a carrier off the coast of Viet Nam and complains to this day, what he went through. You know how rough it is have three hot meals a day, a clean warm bunk, ice cream games and hot showers. Since the conception of the all volunteer military cruise are a maximum of a year but usually six months. What can you or any one say?

God Bless you and the Southern People.

Make sure the job training you choose is one you can use after the military. My niece joined the Navy and days after getting out found a good job. Her boss owns a home medical supply store and after about 2 weeks on the job, the lady told my niece that she wanted to open another store across town but didn't have anyone to run the office until now, was she interested? So, my niece said yes and got to set up the store the way she wanted and hired people, the only thing she isn't is the store owner. She does everything. And she meets with the owner once a month, sooner if needed, and is left to run the store with the ability she has. Her boss trusts her and her training that much. There is a best story for you. Do what you feel is the best for you. Keep your head on straight and you can figure this out by yourself.

If you want to join the navy, go for it. It takes a person with a ton of courage and moral fiber to join the military. Espescially considering all the liberals and dems downing the military every chance they get.

Figure out if you really want to be a military person, then decide if the Navy is the right branch. Everyone I've ever met that joined the military is certain they made the right choice.

Really brother, don't listen to these people that know nothing about the navy or hated it. Those are the type of people that couldnt adapt to the way of life. It's easy. i am a sonar tech on submarines and i love every minute of it. I didnt at first, but i adapted to it. There are pros and cons to everything. That doesnt change no matter what you do. I came in 11 days after i left graduated highschool and now i'm in it for th long run. i graduated 6 years ago and its always funny to see those who "didnt get out." i think that it is a great choice. Remember, "Submariners do it deeper and stay down longer." STAY NAVY!

I don't know the best and the worst of the navy, but I don't think you should join. If you have claustrophobia you shouldn't ever join. I think you should continue your education to prepare for a lifetime work. Maybe the navy is that. I'd hate for you to go to war so young. It's your decision to make of course. Just think about it carefully before you do it.
Good luck.

I went in the Navy right after graduation. There were no decent jobs where I grew up, I wanted something I could retire from with benefits later, and college was an expense that I couldn't afford. I selected a Navy rate which would train me for something I thought would benefit me when I got out. Somehow I talked myself into volunteering for submarine duty. I hated it at first, didn't put the effort into it I should have. But I did adapt, saw a lot of the world I never would have, and met a lot of very good friends from all over the country. I went in for the basic package, planning to get out and use the education benefits. But I saw the benefits of staying in, and retired. And when I talk to guys who got out, or who I graduated high school with, they all say they wished they's have done what I did. It helps now that I am a civilian. Because I retired, I have free medical insurance, commissary and PX shopping, and a retirement check every month to boost what I earn at my civilian job. And when I do get older, I can add my retirement check to whatever I get for social security. Yeah, you have to make a lot of sacrifices and put up with a lot, but it can be a rewarding experience. It depends what you want out of life. I learned more as a submarine sailor than most people will ever have to opportunity to. Good luck with your decision, but remember. The military isn't for everyone, it sucks at first no matter what, but it can be a major benefit to you.

Wow the Navy, get ready to spend 3 years on ship. i was in the USMC, and spent a few months on ship with the Navy. I hated every min. of it. If you become a Corpsman for the USMC you will just be atationed with marines

why does the navy have your attention? It depends on what you like & what you're qualified to do. personally, i never liked the idea of spending months at a time cooped up on a ship. i went into the army after school & had a blast. any questions about the army, email me

I think the navy is a good choice, but don't be a corpsman or a SP. They get around on land too much.
