Because people are conditioned to say "I'm sorry" I worked for a company that we had to say that all the time to customers. Hey why should I say that I am sorry because you dropped your cell phone in the toilet. So I know how you feel. Just catch yourself and if you are not sorry for something, use empathy instead, like, I hate to hear you feel that way, or That's too bad, etc. Hope this helps.

I guess it depends on your situation. For instance, at work I only apologize if I made a mistake. I work for state government and almost everyone who calls blames me or my co-workers for all the problems in the State. I always say "gee, that's terrible" or "I'll certainly look into your question and get back to you."
Trust me, most of the time I just want to say "bite me, you made your bed, now you lie in it." But of course I can't.

Because girls are socialized to be "nice", and in our culture, that means we're not supposed to disagree or be disagreeable. If a girl has a contrary thought, she must apologize or be thought a b*tch.
Personally, I say tell 'em to bite you.

Don't do it!~ I wont- when I don't feel sorry and someone asks for an apology I tell them that they will not be recieving one from me because I think I was totally justified in calling them the C- word..... in public..... in an outdoor voice.

Takes a lots of humility to say "I'm sorry" more so when you don't have to. But it is wise to say it to end an argument or pacify the other.

you say sorry when the person could come to your advantage, you need cooperation with them or they are important to some1 you car about, otherwise go ahead and tell them to bite ya.
