can anyone tell me the medical term for a baby born with their intestines outside their body or have any other info on it please?

Actually, the answer is either omphalocele or gastroschisis. The difference is where the intestines are protruding from. If they come directly out of the umbilicus (belly button), it is referred to as omphalocele. The previous responder was correct that in this case, the intestines are covered by tissue.

If they come out somewhere else, that means there is another hole in the abdominal wall, and in that case, it is call gastroschisis.

The distinction is important, as omphalocele is associated with other birth defects (such as heart problems or genetic problems) in many cases. Gastroschisis, on the other hand, is not usually associated with other defects.

GASTROSCHISIS (has no sac covering the intestines);
