i have noticed this and i really want to know why ??

bars put out the salty nuts to make people thirsty so they buy more drinks, people do it at home, because that's how they do it at the bar...
some bars use pretzels or popcorn

if they are using nuts, then most of the time they are salted nuts. Salt makes many people thirsty. And the more people drink the more money the bar earns.

Nuts and crisps are often put out on bars as the salt on them makes you feel thirsty, therefore you will buy more drink!!
