Your explorer has a knob on the dash that has 2WD, 4WD auto, 4WD high, 4WD low on it or some variation of that, place the shift knob in 2WD mode, backup at least 10 feet do completely disengage the system. And do not drive around in 4WD on dry pavement any longer or you will be spending loads of money on repairing your drive train

It depends on the cause. If you are getting driveline bind from an engaged 4x4 system, then I'd begin by checking the shift control motor, or just take it to a reputable shop. If you are getting a tire hop from misalignment, that's a job for a reputable frame/alignment shop, you may have a serious front end alignment problem. FWIW, some front-tire-fight is normal, if that's what you're desribing.

is it an awd? if so you cant disengage the system. if its 4wd take vewhicle out of 4 x4 range and put vehicle into 2wd.
