Police are human. Humans are prone to error. Limited power would be the best solution. Which British member of the House of Lords once said "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely?"

No. No one should have unlimited power. That's why our Government is constructed with checks and balances. Remember, police enforcement is active INTERPRETATION of the law. With unlimited power, police would not be subject to justification of their particular interpretation at the time. Remember, an arrest is just that - the accused still has the right to be tried on the charges. This is important - unlimited power would mean living in a police state. Check around the globe and see how people in such states feel. Not good at all.

Make no mistake, police perform an important function in society, but they are not above the law, nor should they be granted power above and beyond.

No........the way things are set up now is out of control. Police have to much power now, and they have always had to much power. Example: A cop is sitting in their cruiser and someone goes by doing 70 in a 55, but the cop just lets them go. Then someone goes by doing 58 in a 55 and the cop stops them. The reason the cops stops them is because the person is Asian and the cop got into a arguement with an Asian neighbor about a pet running across the cops lawn. And this is a real life situation that happens everyday. So to give them unlimited power means they can judge you right on the spot and kill you right there if that is the punishment. And unfortunetly, America is turning into a police state.

Absolutely not. People given that much power would eventually turn the country into a police state and would trample the rights of all people regardless whether they were breaking the law or not.
Classic example of this: Nazi Germany during the 1930's and 40's. Russia under Stalin's rule.

Of course not. Too much power corrupts. Not many people can handle power. Its not a question of unlimited or limited but a good balance. Very much like its not a question of wrong or right but how wrong and how much you are right. Dont get fooled in making a choice or choosing a side. Its nature balancing things out.

I think is dangerous to make one single entity too powerful, since you run with the possibility of creating a monster, besides history shows that at times there has been many unethical members of the police department.

Unlimited power means they don't have to obey the law or the constitution. I don't know how anyone can think that's a good idea.

Hell no!!!! We have a Constitution for a reason. Police are capable of mistakes as well and are not above the law. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Of course not unlimited, but definitely more. You NEED the police to do things that you don't WANT them to do.
