zawny2004: I posed a question in order to get it answered. Your response is not an answer and therefore doesn't belong on this thread. for that you have been reported. I'm sorry. But, it is quite annoying to receive answers like yours. Also, please remember that cockatiels are not dogs or cats. They are a domesticated bird that originated from Australlia. Just in case you were unaware aus. has banned the export of these beautiful birds. So, the only tiels that you will find in the us have been bred. If people refrain from breeding we will no longer have the pleasure of owning these affectionate fun loving birds.

I use 1" x 1" 16g galvanised mesh for all cages for this size of birds.

I have 3 quakers and a conure. Quakers and conures are both awesome species - it's really hard to choose between the two! As much as I love my conure, my quakers have a zest for life that is infectious!! They are extremely smart little birds that have the best personalities. All three are little cuddle bugs, that love to be held, petted and carried around by everyone in my family. Quakers and conures both can talk. Quakers seem to be a little more clearer than the conures that I've had in my life (nanday and sunday). Some of the conures have high-pitched voices, and that makes them a little less easy to understand (blue-crowned conures, like paulie, are the clearest) All of our birds talk to some extent - they all laugh. Quakers make great pets, you just have to be dedicated enough to spend the time with them that they need. If not, you may end up with a bird that you cannot handle. This goes for a lot of species though. They are easy to train, easy to handle, and once you have one- you will fall in love! Good luck with whatever you choose.

You can go to a feed store and buy the wire. It looks like the wire they make rabbit cages out of. Let me tell you a little about birds. I had conures and other birds like African Grey's, Quakers etc. With the conures I had a hard time breeding my African Grey's So I had to sell them. The reason for that was because the Conures make a prey call when they see something and it really interrupted the breeding of my Grey's. So I sold all my conures and moved my Quakers into my house and I had very good success with them.

Any kind of galvanised bird wire of the right size and thickness would work. But please make sure you scrub the wire and remove any little tags or sharp ends, before putting the birds in the cage. Apart from getting stabbed by sharp bits of wire, birds can also get heavy metal poisoning from eating bits of wire or chewing the galvanised dust that is always on the wire when you buy it.

Most cage wires are intended to be used for keeping livestock, poultry and other living things will be safe for them. But be aware that conures will be able to bite through the wire mesh of poultry wire. They have nothing to do all day but plot their escape.
