It's probably caused by dreaming but you might want to bring it up to his doctor. My friend's child had something called night terrors that started like that when he was about 18 months and lasted until he was close to three. It's nothing to worry about but her pediatrician offered a lot of good advice to deal with it. In night terrors, children have bad dreams but can't wake up and sometimes they thrash around. It can be scary but it's common and as long as the doctor rules out other things and gives you information to deal with it, you can get through it without much stress. Good luck.

an old fashioned doctor that I had known for years explained it in simple terms....its growing pains a catch all word for the aches child get [ ones that are more in tune with their bodies then others] as their muscles stretch and pull ... remember they grow a little every day

Just to be on the safe side, take your baby to the doctor to get them check out, in order to rule out anything serious.

Does he wake up? There can be a variety of reasons, hunger, thirst, tummy ache... When he cries, does he tell you why? Make sure that his covers are on him because he might simply be cold.

i think its just dreams.my neice does the same.she is 3 yrs old.
