If you're going to eat out for the whole two weeks, it depends on what resturants you go to. If you go to places like McDonalds, it'd cost about $18 a day in US currency, or about $6 a meal.

It depends on what types of dining options you prefer??
Breakfast: pastry or muffin $1.50
eggs, meat, pancakes at Dennys or Ihop $6
or- if you want to get fancy you can expect to pay $8-$20. But it is pretty easy to find low price breakfast food.
Lunch: Burger and fries and soda $6
The same at a sit down venu $8-15
Dinner: there is so much of a variety it is hard to say.... An average price meal at most (not gormet) places is about $12-$15. Also... the portions here are HUGE! Most meals are big enough for 2 to share. Also, water is FREE with all meals and you can have as much as you would like, so if you are a water drinker you will save! Soda is begining to get pricey $2 a pop.

A popular program on American TV is called "$40 a Day". In it the hostess travels to different cities and eats gourmet-style meals on that budget. In most cities you can eat quite well on that budget, and it would be possible to survive on US$20 or less. It depends entirely on what sort of meal you're eating. Fast food value meals range from US$3.50 to US$7 each (plus tax). Cheap restaurants with waiter service have meals can be anywhere from US$5 to US$15 (plus tax and tip). Nicer restaurants begin around US$15 per meal and can go up to US$100. Drinks are extra in restaurants (except with fast food value meals), but water is free on request. The best deals are often in ethnic restaurants (Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Greek, etc.), which are often cheaper than fast food.

Sales tax will increase the published price of everything (not just food) in America by 5 - 10%. Tipping is at your discretion, but 15% is fairly standard in restaurants with waiter service.

Well, luckily for you, we Americans seem to be in love with the "Dollar Menu". For quick lunches, you can get a burger, fries, and a coke for under $5 (even cheaper if you go to the right place).

As far as dinners, you can generally get a dinner at a restaurant for anywhere from $8 up. Of course, this is probably all before tax.

Let break this down a little, a gallon of milk is about $3.00, meat is priced by the pound hamburger is around $2.00 to & 3.00 a pound. Spaggitti sauce $2.00. Garlic bread $2.00 to $3.00. if you want a can of vegtables to serve with that they are about $0.70 to a$1.00.So at most for this dinner you'd spend $14.00. The price of a meal at a fast food restraunt for one person is costing about $6.00. It makes more since if you have a family of more then 3 people to eat at home than go out to eat. I have a family of 4 it usaully cost us $25.00 to $30.00 to eat at a fast food restraunt. However most families are always in a rush anymore. With both parents working in a house hold some times it easier to drive through to get food on the way home from work. That's a the problem in the US, since we have a high rate of obesity. More people should sit down to dinner with the family for a home cooked meal.

Prices do vary acording to
where you live in the US.

My advise would be to do some research as to some good cheap restaurants that the locals go to. Also look in the local newspaper for some coupons. Sometimes you can get buy one get one half off or even free. You can also eat in a sit down restaurant (not Micky D's or BK) and just order off the appitiser menu. We serve rather large portions here so sometimes just an appitiser can fill you up.

Figure roughly $ 20/day or about $ 280 for two weeks, rounding it up to about, say $300.

Remember LA has a large Hispanic (Mexican and Central American) as well as a large Asian (Chinese, Vietnamese) population so you might want to check out those ethnic restaurants in addition to your usual fast food chains.

Many ethnic places are clean and inexpensive with great food to boot. They sure beat eating burgers and fries every day!
