I have always liked working out in the morning more than any other time. I think your body has more energy and your mind is more prepared to workout in the morning than in the afternoon or evening. Now as far as your workout goes, as long as this is not your first experience with working out 1-2 hours should be fine. However, if your are new to working out you may want to cut it down to a hour and a half or so. If you are going to workout daily make sure you do different muscle groups each day. An example would be: Monday Chest and Triceps, Tuesday Biceps and Forearms, etc.. You would want to do some type of ab workout each day. I usually mix it up so that I shock my abs everyday. You will be sore for the first week but don't let that discourage you. Also, make sure you don't start over training. This can be very bad for your body. If you start to feel that you are getting weaker instead of stronger cut down on your workout time.

eat many healthy meals during the day, like 5-8 big snacks instead of 3 heavy meals and workout at least 4-5 times a week to gain weight and muscle. Don't work too hard on cardio/running because that will keep you lean, light and slim.

It may not work for you, but I was always told to try and work out before eating so that you burn more fat reserves.
After working out, some fruit or something like that can replenish some of your body's stores and it is always good for you.
If you try it and it doesn't help, I apologize. If it works, then you just got a free boost in your program.
A lot of people also favor a routine where you break up the workout into maybe cardio in the morning, then resistance train in the afternoon (don't know what your schedule is though).
Also several small meals throughout the day can boost metabolism, if that's what you are looking for.
The biggest thing of any program is consistency as you probably know.

Personally I think you shouldn't work out for over an hour and a half.
Also, working out daily is NOT good. The body needs 'recover time.'
I say follow a balanced, healthy diet, and then work out 3-4 times a week.
