GUTS - is arriving home late after a night out with the guys, being met at the door by your wife with a broom and having the guts to ask ' Are you still cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?'
BALLS - is coming home late after a night out with the guys, smelling of perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on the butt and having the balls to say 'You're next'.

Having guts and having balls is pretty much the same thing. I think balls implies that the individual is male, although I have heard of women characterized as having balls. Having balls may have somewhat the flavor of having the capacity to do something risky and kind of rude. Having guts is more a matter of being capable of doing something that may be dangerous but not necessarily rude. Having balls is like having the temerity to do something, having guts is having the courage.

Ha ha! I think if that's the official definition then having either in my house would lead to the balls being removed and the guts sucker punched! Very funny though!
