I have a Philips HN060 and a no name brand that I picked up from a drug store. I use them to reduce aircraft jet engine noise when flying. Both work quite well. If you listen to music or watch the movie you will appreciate how clear the sound is with noise cancelling headphones. I have never used a Bose so I can't give you an opinion on how well they work vs bose.

I bought the JVC HA-NC100 from amazon.com for about $50 and they work fine, although I've never tried the Bose, so I don't know how they would compare. But they are decent for the price and definitely make a difference.

While I haven't personally used them, I have heard some good things about the Senheiser model...and I know they're much cheaper than Bose.
Ask a salesperson if you can try them in the store....
