I got a new student teacher yesterday and as I was talking to her I used a tissue to blow my nose. Then later I realized that I had forgotten to wash my hands, but in the meantime touched the computer, the door handle, etc. I am embarrased and this is very unlike me, as I am usually very good about hand washing after such events. Do you think I should apologize, disinfect these items in front of her, or just let it go?

Just blow your nose again and this time make sure she sees you washing your hands afterwards. She will assume that either it was a one time thing that you didn't wash your hands after blowing your nose or that she missed the hand washing last time.
That's really nice of you to worry about her peace of mind. I'm sure she'll forget all about it in no time if she never sees it again.

I just saw a disinfectant commercial that you probably should not see because you may take it too literally. The subject of germs is that we do our best by practicing good hygiene but you are taking on the whole of it way too seriously. It's the janitors job to clean the school and yes, absolutely, washing your hands is very good but I don't get the part about doing something personally to the student teacher. Before you touched all of those things they were most likely already covered in germs. Let it go.

Let it go, I know people who have no qualms digging their noses or farting in front of others. The fact that you used a tissue is considered good enough, most people(including me) wouldn't give a second thought if we used a tissue! Most people(including me, again) probably don't disinfect their house or work area either, ever!

Just let it go....she would probably think you were MORE weird if you apologized for such a thing.

I would let it go...just if it happens again try to remember to be vigilant about it. She probably has forgotten all about it unless she is a worse germ phobe than me.

you don't have to apologize but what you can do is try to disinfect the items you touched that would prevent others from being infected by your germs

Blowing your nose is not an "event" for one thing.... just let it go. Not like you sneezed on evething

If you had shaken her hand, I would have said apologize, but I'm sure she didn't even notice. Let it go.
