It would be best to go to a salon for this. I am a stylist, and this is a complex procedure that I don't ever even walk away from, as you need to watch the lightener develop. You need a pre-lightener (bleach) if at home. Salons use a product called Elimin8, which is much gentler. It must be evenly applied and quickly, so it doesn't take more in some spots than others as it is really fast acting (both bleach and Elimin8). Do not apply to the roots, as heat from your head will make this process ultra quickly and you'll end up with what is labeled "hot roots" (ultra bright band on all your roots that even when covered will still show). You need to watch the color lift, and when you are about lightened, it needs to be brought through your root area evenly and quickly.... All washed off when all even. Now you must dry the hair. This next part is tricky at home too. You need to formulate your color based on your results. Is it ashy? yellowy? what tones do you see?? What is your desired color? If it is yellowy, use an ash based blonde... If it is ashy... use a golden blonde. IF it is still not light enough.... you must pre-lighten once again. (which happens... I have clients I've had to pre-lighten up to three times). At home... this could make your hair literally disintegrate....... K... Good luck! My advice is to go to a salon... but this is how we do it in the salon..... It takes years for a stylist to be a great colorist though, and this is for a reason. It is all chemical reactions, and unless you understand what your hair is doing..... at each stage.. you can really damage your hair. good luck

Be really careful. You can buy a colour stripper from one of the well known hair colourant brands - I can't remember which one it is but look on the shelves and I'm sure you'll see it. If you use that first it will take away at least some of the redness. When you dye your hair blonde just make sure you leave it on for long enough so that the dying process is seen through to the end. On the way to blonde your hair goes through so many colours and with red dye on you're in danger of ending up pink!! I've used Jerome B Be Blonde before and that was pretty good and not too expensive. If it all sounds a little scary see if your local college or hairdressers have a modelling night - you'd be a prime candidate for teaching students and it's all supervised so nothing can go wrong. Good luck!!

Hi,

I know going to a salon is costly but it would be suggested you do so for this transformation, if not I have used Miss Clairol Hair booster it comes in a package in powder form. And you can mix it with the liquid peroxide that Miss Clairol makes. You can find this at the local Hair&Beauty supply store.

Godd Luck

u could bleach the hair blonde, that would be a big change, thought firstly u'd have to make sure its wot u want and whether ud suit that colour. if not then i suggest going for highlights or low lights, depending on whether u wanna go lighter or darker. like u said its expensive to go to a salon but u could go in and ask for advice on wot they think u should have done, and leave saying u wanna think about it, that way it gives u a idea on wot the professionals think without paying them lol, or go into somewhere like Boots and ask them, they usually know wot products is best to use.

What's wrong with red hair, why don't you have some highlights and lowlights added, that would look cool without losing all of you gorgeous red.
