Good question - I have two cats and one can and one it would appear can't, I'm not sure if he knows it's him and ignores it or whether there is a lack of cognition in some cats

Yes I believe kittens can see themselves in mirrors, although some cats don't get overly excited. If the cat reacts it's a fun activity for them. Have fun with the kitten.

They may not recognize it as themselves, and it may not see it as another cat (no reference point), but there will come a time when the cat plays with the mirror

Your Cat can probably see an Image of itself but will not have the brain Capacity to understand. I think there are only a few Animals that can understand, like an Elephant and maybe a Dolphin

I think they see themselves, but when they do they register it as being another cat. My cat used to hiss at himself and fight his reflection in our hallway closet doors (they are mirrors), and now he will refuse to look at any mirrors.

yes,but they become confused, they never think about mirrors,they dont even talk to their selfs. the first time they dont even look at mirrors until you hold thier faces to the mirror.the same thing happened to me.
