Bird feces can cause an infection in an open wound. You should do what you can not to let poop get in an open wound. Just wash it out well with warm water and soap and you should be fine. Peroxide is not necessary unless there is an infection. Soap and water is the best method. Also, if you have an open wound you should have it covered with some sort of band-aid. Just watch it to make sure your wound does not become infected.

Umm? Really? Well first off, how were you exposed to... and on an open wound? Better yet, never mind, I do not want to know. Anyways to answer your question, yes it can be infectious because feces (from any creature) is nothing close to being sanitary. It can be treated, and should be done so quickly and thoroughly. You will have to clean the wound of anything that my have gotten in contact with it that may be harmful. I suggest cleansing the wound with something like alcohol, peroxide or something along those lines. If it is something more server than just a minor open wound, then you should consult your physician.

Was the bird hovering over an untreated and open wound for some reason? For starters, you should never have an open injury or even any skin blemishes such as acne when working with any bird or animal. If you have an injury, you need to clean it, add antibiotic ointment and cover it when doing anything other than changing the dressing.
Everything and anything can cause problems if it comes into contact with any open wound or injury - be it bird feces, your own dirty hand, a freshly picked tomato or the inside of your clothing.

All you need to do is wash well with soap and water after you come into contact with feces. If you need to handle birds cover your wound to avoid infection.

Meningitis is almost always caused by another bacterial or viral infection that began elsewhere in the body, like the ears, sinuses or upper respiratory tract.
The bacterial form of meningitis is an extremely serious illness that requires immediate medical care. If not treated quickly, it can lead to death within hours or to permanent brain damage in about 30% of people.
Fungal meningitis is much less common. It is usually caused by a fungus called cryptococcus, found in pigeon droppings. Fungus-related meningitis is rare in healthy people. However, someone who has an impaired immune system, as happens with AIDS, is more likely to become infected with this form of meningitis.

think about your question honestly and see if you don't answer it yourself. Yes I'm pretty sure you could treat it with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide but I mean come on. Bird crap and an open wound? Is there a real question there?

I've had bird crap in a finger wound before. I'm alive to tell the story about it...so...I guess it's not that bad of a deal. It looks a lot yuckier than it is.

First of all, its POOP. So yes, if you do not wash the wound thoroughly, and use hydrogen peroxide, it CAN get infected! Its not different than human feces. Poop is poop!
