No I am glad they finally found the problem and can help these kids. If you do not have ADD or ADHD you do not know how hard it is for that child. I think the meds should be watched and how the child reacts to it. This helps these kids to learn and not be made fun of at school!!! Kids at school can be very cruel when these kids are slow in learning and the meds help so they can cope and be on the same level as everyone else!!

You know what faerie, at one point in time they blamed Autism on the parents or mothers inabilitys. They of course were very wrong as I belive you are as well.
True the medication and lable are given out too easy, true that children are eating bad foods, true that parents have a hard time punishing their children, but false that any of that leads to ADHD/ADD
If you have ever dealt with a child suffering from ADHD/ADD you would have a better clue of what their world is like.
I do not think ADHD is child abuse, though there are some similarites to how the child acts to the way an abused child would act but the two are not the same. As for the whole business being a super power of abuse on the children I also have to disagree. If their idea is to make money, and I am sure it is then they would make it regardless of the ADHD medication, big pharm is bursting with money and the idea that they would do this to make lots of money is just silly, the publicity alone would shut them down. Why would they do that when they could make pills like viagra 10 times over and people would eat them up.
Also, medicaly there is proof that because the children that take certain drugs like Ritalin calm down!... in the children without ADHD they would be bouncing off the walls.
Please keep in mind that I may not make any sense.. its 7:30 am

I think that there are maybe just a few children that truly have an attention disorder. But most of these children's problems stem from the parents inability, for one reason or another, to behave like a parent. Spoiling, and giving only sweets and crap for snacks. Ignoring the child when they need attention, giving attention when they shouldn't get it. Making excuse after excuse for behavior, and not discipline them when the child should have been disciplined.
And then, all of a sudden, this child has ADD/ADHD and needs dangerous medication that can make the child at the very worst suicidal. And I've seen it.

Remember that there was a time when many doctors would prescribe antibiotics for the common cold? The only result was that when they got an actual infection the antibiotcs didn't work for them.
There is a huge difference between ADHD and autism. HUGE! Studies have proved that a change in diet will change a child's behavior. So why label and kid, give him and excuse and a stigma for the rest of his life and put him on meds that WILL harm him when all you have to do is give them an apple instead of chips, or give him juice instead of soda? This society is so quick to believe anything that the pharm companies and doctors tell them, so quick to find a medical way to fix an problem that does have a natural cure. It really bothers me.

Obviously you don't have a child with ADHD. You don't know the heartbreak and frustration of watching your child try his hardest to be "normal" but just can't. Constant figeting with fingers, ears, toys, anything like that. Not being able to understand a simple explanation because one word that's said forces your mind to think of something completely unrelated. Have you ever not been able to sleep because you were thinking about something not related to sleep? Same thing. Could you do anything about it on your own? Not likely. You either let it go and get very little sleep, so you function at a lower level the next day, or you take some medicine that relaxes you enough to sleep. See the parallel?
Unfortunately, the source of this problem is in your brain. A certain part of it (where nervous control and restraint are from) isn't functioning well. So a stimulant is used to "wake it up" so it does it's job. This is where most people blow a fit. Stimulant=speed in the eyes of the public. If someone without ADHD takes it, then that part of the brain is OVERstimulated, so it becomes a drug high.
Yes, ADHD medications are strong, but considering what they need to do to get the job done, there isn't much choice. As a parent, it is my responsibility to give my child the best situation for him to learn and grow. And for him, not taking his meds and being forced to deal with it on his own would be child abuse.
Blessings

I think that most of the time a child is labled ADHD they are really just active CHILDREN. I guess Me and both of my brothers would have been labled ADHD, and probably almost every child I grew up with.
Now we have ADHD for busier then ever parents to use to medicate children.
I don't believe in ADHD. I believe in active normal boys and girls who are in a fast paced crazy existance now and could probably benefit from a little more attention. I think if more mothers stayed home to raise their kids we wouldn't see so much so called ADHD kids. These daycare kids are probably desperatly seeking some special loving attention from mothers and fathers that they just can't recieve at a daycare, or at home when parents are exhausted froma long days work. I was a child raised in daycare soI have been there done that. Most memories I have do not include my parents. JMO

In order to get the needed help you have to get the Dianosis or the "label". With out the label the school won't help and the doctors can't send you to the proper doctor or at least Insurance won't pay.
