Rubbish! Got my cat at 9 months and she is the most loving, beautiful and happy cat! And besides, in the past I have had a cat which I got from the SCPA (like my current cat, byt the way) and got her when she was 1,5. Again, same story: she did great. Unfortunately due to old age she died.

Look, whether or not your kitty settles in also depends on yourself. Aftr you have taken her home, give her some space to settle in. She will be a bit stressed, and will explore very square centimeter of your home. Let her be. Even if she crawls under your bed: let her be, but let her know she is not alone. Do not, during the first days, leave her alone for too long. MOving houses is stressfull as it is.

So get you kitty, and do not worry!

I think this is actually the ideal age. The kitten will already have experienced a bit of life and if it's been with its mum all this time it will have picked up all the life skills it needs. It will have had all its jabs and suchlike and as it's been spayed that will be one less responsibility for you.

All that will be left for you to do will be to settle it in and then enjoy having it with you.

I got my new 5 month old kitten just 4 days ago and he has already made himself quite at home.

The only golden rule to remember is to let the kitten find a little hiding place for when things get too much for it, and whenever it is in its hiding place leave it alone. Never disturb a cat when it is in its "private place" It is easy to worry but no kitten ever lived its whole life under a wardrobe and if you leave it be til it feels strong enough to face its new world, it will find it easier to trust you when it's ready.

Being handled is all about trust so as long as you get a good level of trust built up, you will be fine.

Enjoy your new little baby.

Expect that she will probably be frightened and hiding for a few days because the change in location will be scary for her. So, don't push the handling until she seems comfortable around you and her new home. After that, it depends on the cat's personality. I have two cats that I got as very small kittens and I handled both pretty much equally, but only one ever took to it. They're all different and you can't count on being able to carry them around, but most cats will like to sit near or on you once they're used to you.

Just give her time, love, toys and treats! It's nice to hear that you sound like you're going to be a caring and responsible pet owner, they're aren't enough people like that out there. Make sure you take her to a vet once she's settled in so that you'll have a person with her records and that knows her in case something comes up before her next vaccinations, and to be sure she's healthy.

Good luck to you, enjoy your new friend!

It does not depend on the age, it depends on how you are with the kitten. It will be stressed in a new place so give it a room to get used to at first with all the necessities and comforts it will need. Spend alot of time with it, playing and cuddling.
If you do it right it will adjust fine with little stress. If not the cat can end up sick because of the stress.
Also buy some Feliway and spray it in the room to help reduce the stress. It is a wonderful product and works well.

I got mine three weeks ago from the Cats Protection. We also have a very lively 8 year old dog. At first we kept the cat in a quiet room and didn't handle her too much. The two animals get on great. They are both totally mad and run round the house like a pair of mad things. Love them both to bits. Enjoy your kitten for a long time. xxx
Oh! I forgot, the only problem with her is that she attacks all the potted plants, but hey ho what's a bit of soil here and there.

Not at all, I got my cat about the same age who had been feral and not used to human contact. or the first week or so he was very scared and hiding al the time, now a month on you wouldn't believe the change in him. He is the most loving and friendly little thing. Just let her get used to ur place in her own time and just give her lots of cuddles when she wants them! Good luck :)

Your new kitten will be fine. It will take a few days to a week to get use to her surroundings and you. she has to feel the love from you to understand she is in a good place. Some loud noises will frighten her, which is natural.

I received my oldest cat at 9 months old. Took him a few days to get use to walking around a house not a cage, feel his surroundings and to get used to people always being around. My cat is now going on 6 in July.

She should be fine. Just try not to make any loud noises or sudden movements to scare her.

If she runs and hides under the sofa or in another place, don't sit there and try and get her out, just wait for to come out on her own, she's just nervous.

Make sure you have lots of toys and treats for her to play with. That way she'll learn to trust you and settle in quickly.

Hope that helps XD! good luck

2 years ago I adopted a feral cat. She was scared of everything - even the noise of the fridge door opening would send her running to hide.

Now she's just like any other domestic cat - all over me! Find her favourite treat - as a previous poster said, food will train any cat. Mine hated being put in her basket but each time I put her in I gave her a prawn. She now associates basket=prawn!

Oh yeah. Just make sure the first night you don't smother her with hugs and everything b/c the first night she is going to want to get to know your house. The litter box will probably not be a problem just as soon as you get the box set up set her in it so she knows what it is and where it is. Hope I could help!
