Why does the steering of my 99 Wrangler squeek when it's cold out? I mean it's not just a little forgivable squeak either. When I turn it squeals quite loudly. The Jeep has 110K on it but runs like a champ. How can I fix it?

Could be either low power steering fluid, bad pump, or loose pulley. But since it mainly happens when it's cold, I'd check your drive belt. The thing is easy to change yourself, just be sure to route the new one correctly (follow the diagram under the hood) otherwise your water pump will rotate backwards and yeah.....it over heats.

My van does the same thing, in the morning even when i just turn it on it makes a really loud noise and the stearing also makes noises when i steer in cold weather, but after the car heats up a little it stops doing it. i took it to the mechanic and the guy said there is really nothing wrong with it and alot of cars, even brand new ones make strange noises in cold whether cause it interupts the friction of some of the parts, but not in a dangerous way.
