sure thing. take an oral decongestant from your chemist, something like sudafed to clear your airways up top.

as for your chest phlegm...

is it green, if it is you probably have an infection and need to see your gp, if its yellow you may be at the end of an infection (unless your asthmatic) if its clear and sticky you oprobably just dripping your cold onto your chest.

The tightness and wheezing will go away when the phlegm clears.. try lying on alternate sides and having 4 deep breaths in through your nose, out through the mouth repeated twice (try not to cough in between and save the cough till you've finished, it''l be more productive)

To help you at night, take some cough mixture linctus which will depress your cough - dont go for the non-drowsy kind it wont help you sleep.

WARNING- if your wheeziness persists, you cough continues to be productive and green or you feel yourself getting very short of breath at rest or on light exertion see a doctor..

Hope this helps...

B

If the Flem you are coughing up is yellow or green see your doctor. otherwise being in a steamy room might help. Eucalyptus chest rub is good, extra vit C and hot honey and lemon drink. Hope you feel better

Is there some reason why you can't see a doctor? That would be my first suggestion, or you could end up with pneumonia.

In the meantime, look for a good over-the-counter cough medicine with expectorant. Robitussin-DM is good. The ingredient you need to look for in an OTC cough medicine is dextromethorphan.

Acetilcistine will help break up the flegm in your lungs; ask your chemist (pharmacist) about this. It should be available without a prescription. A cough syrup containing dextromathorphan will supress the cough impulse, but it's important to get rid of what's clogging up your lungs first.

Danielle, this isn't a cough, it's a chest infection and you need to see a Dr for some anti-biotics.
