Many of us encounter God and then ‘wander into a desert’ where we have no idea where to go from there. Unity with the Lord is an unknown dimension that does not correlate with familiar life experiences and we reach a mental wilderness with few believers able to take us on from there.

I disagree with you when you say that "Unity with the Lord is an unknown dimension that does not correlate with familiar life experiences"

If we examine the Bible, God's Word to us, then we see that God actually invites us to have a relationship with him.
Proverbs 2:1-5
Of course, we are limited, made from dust, and could never find out everything about God. But, the fact that He invites us to get close to him, to have an intimate relationship with Him shows that it must be possible.
The life we lead right now is not as God originally intended for us. The apostle Paul said that it wasn't the real life.
He purposed for mankind to live forever on the earth, the scriptures clearly show that, and they also show that His original purpose for us & the earth will be fufilled.

Romans 5:12
Isaiah 55,10,11
Psalm 37:9-11 & 29

God's people are not in mental wilderness either.
They know why mankind is in the mess it's in today, why we suffer grow old & die & what the future is for mankind & the earth. Many religions claim to know God but their actions or way of thinking do not show this. It's a case of the blind leading the blind if you like.

I have an intimate relationship with the only true God of the Bible.
(Yahweh/Jehovah - Psalm 83:18)

If you're interested in developing that relationship & want to know more, please don't hesitate to email me

Faith, to many, is too big a leap.
We dont lack the skill to understand. We lack the willingness to try to understand something that for many just doesn't make sense.

In a world that is so far reaching and has many logical explainations for the state of our universe, God has been put on a back burner.

Biblical scholars and the Church alike, are still thinking in 16th century ways, when we live in the 21st century.
It was only in the 70's that Pope John Paul II repealed the conviction against Galileo for publishing, what we all know today, is correct. That should have happened long before.

People need to start looking at the scripture themselves.
Because someone else telling you what something means just doesn't work anymore.

And the religions of the world need to accept that explanations of the scriptures has always changed through the ages according to the new logics and evidences of Science.
God is Himself, logical and proving.

There needs to be an understanding, and a willingness to understand that Science is the exploration of the physical, along side that religion is the exploration of the spiritual, and both are the exploration of the whole.

Without that unity of understandings, their will always be conflict in peoples hearts.

God will never leave you alone, he will provide people to assist you - when the student is ready, the teacher will arrive. Join a church in your neighbourhood, and become involved in its activities.

Remember that Christianity is a very practical thing, God wants us to live a full life glorifying Him, and to help others achieve the same. That is what the ten commandments are all about. Unfotunately, life doesn't always have a happy ending, but knowing God and having a relationship with Him, gives us the ability to endure life when things go wrong.

God bless, and all the best for the rest of your (never-ending) journey.

God has given us his word in the bible o guide us in building a relationship with him. A wilderness experience is necessary for every Christian in order for him/her to learn how to deal with temptation and to grow spiritually. Familiar life experiences is exactly what we are trying to get away from because these are things of the world that have no place in the life of the spiritual person.

Yes,it is a shame that people come into the kingdom of God and then whoever helped bring them in doesn't make sure they are taught how to know they have a real relationship with the God head(Father,Son,Holy Spirit).
I was blessed with someone to help me but I remember him telling me,him learning the truth was like pulling stumps out of the ground,he had to lay everything he was taught, thought, felt and believed down before his spirit could receive some truth.
You can be united with the Lord by abiding in his word and letting the word abide in you.

This wandering is called spiritual ignorance and spiritual blindness. I am NOT calling anyone IGNORANT, but am speaking on the spiritual level. Some people are content to think that they have done enough to get into heaven, and stop there. They thrive on the Milk of the Word, and cannot handle the Meat of the Word. They try to read Gods Word without understanding, and that is where they will always be until their eyes are opened along with their heart and ears to receive understanding. Ads Christ said, "they have eyes and cannot see, and have ears and cannot hear" If a man is blind and he leads someone who is also blind, BOTH will fall into a ditch.

This is what separates us, for rather I have the need to know what this relationship is and look with eyes ears and mind wide open and found the skill can be discovered within. It is the light of the infinite all I have discovered inside my mind. It was shrouded first with darkness to make me blind but I persisted and I strived so now I find I see with a different mind.

I see you are a man who knows he has missed something and that is the first step my man for I know your journey is at hand! Look search and seek the light of thy mind and surely you too will walk out or your desert!

The Saints in Old times was led into the wilderness, for one purpose only, & that is to get all that man made ideals out of their heads & put the true revelation of God's word in their hearts & Minds.

The "mental wilderness" can be avoided by finding the right place of worship for you, at least in my experience. Good luck!

there are so many good answers ahead of me,but i wanted to stress the surrender aspect to you.at the time of salvation, I encountered God as you say but my flesh was still in control of my thought process and it took many years of surrendering daily to a spiritual walk which was unfamiliar to me.God says " my thoughts are not your thoughts my ways are not your ways."to pursue an intimate relationship with God we must die to self a little more each day. and you re right we cant depend on others wholly to lead us out of the desert ,but dependence on God and his word will.( this prayer has been a big help to me ) LORD i give myself to you this day,to do with me and to build with me as thou wilt, release me from the bondage of self that i may better serve thee and those you would have me serve through your will, your way.) keep your eye on the prize/(paraphrased). ><> ><> god bless you.
