It's a habit you need to learn how to deal with - if you just set aside some time each day to read aloud from a book or magazine and concentrate on slowly and evenly reading it, that might help. Also try saying different vowel sounds - then adding letters - for instance - moo, mee, may, my (mmmm is good for your vocal cords and helps make them stronger).

Realise that your friends will listen to what you have to say, so there's no need to rush! And also, that listening to someone rattle on very fast is not only irritating, it's hard to take in what they're saying. It's just a question of stopping and thinking, consciously *deciding* to slow down. Sort of like taking a mental "deep breath" to calm you down. If what you have to say is worth hearing, I'm sure people will hear you out! And it's much easier to listen to someone who speaks at a normal pace.
If you need help, contact a speech therapist, or perhaps a counselor to help you deal with the anxiety you feel about the need express yourself and be heard before someone cuts you off. If you had many siblings, maybe you were used to being ignored or interrupted? There may be a root issue at work here.

i've never heard of this as a speech disorder, i knew someone who spoke very fast and I thought it was just habit. my friends son stutters sometimes and his speech therapist just tells him to try to speak slowly and really think about what he wants to say before speaking it, i dont know if this is irrelavant to your prob but i still hope it helps

Hypnosis. Relaxation. Imagining yourself speaking slowly and clearly often. I do the same and I'm a teacher - very bad. I have to remind myself constantly.

i started that at a young age, because i wanted to make sure they hears everything i had to say before i was cut off, through the years i have trained myself not to.
