I'm Muslim and I do not defend anyone, regardless of their faith, beliefs or weird goings on in their heads if they commit a crime-be it car crime or terrorism-wrong is wrong.

Islam, like any other religion has a mixed kettle of fish. You have the devout Muslims who try and spend every waking minute praying for those who need peace, calm and love. Hats off to them for being so committed.
You have the moderate Muslims who try and prayer five times a day, look after their family, go the pictures, have laugh, sometimes get tempting by those things that are forbidden etc etc etc.
You have the low key Muslim who have the Muslim name and well that's about it.
You then have a core group (and I mean core-and there's not many of them) who are what I would class as extremists who feel murder, bloodshed of thousands, turning Christian countries into Muslim countries is the way forward...and believe me not many support them. Sadly though the media feel that they must show these extremists and their supporters more often than those who want peace-e.g. the average person like me. You can see some of these across many religions...not just Muslims.

Those who choose to 'make excuses' for anyone who commits a crime in my opinion are as guilty as those who did the wrong thing in the first place.

Not all Muslims defend terrorism-and why would they? Terrorism is something done by those who are too far away from the basic teachings of islam....And as for countries that protect terrorists-this is more politics than religion. I spent sometime in a Muslim country and some run more on what benefits the politians pocket than what their religion says. So if the terrorists are willing to line the pocket of leaders they'll get their support. Does that make sense??

What would you like people like myself to do about these weirdo's/loonies? Apart from boycotting their speeches, not giving them the time of day, openly saying they (terrorists) are wrong...what more do you want from the average person (like me)?

As for depending wrong doings-its not just a certain community/religion who you can point at and say there guilty of this crime-I think its human nature to get on the defensive-e.g. protect ones religion is all it gets is bad press. Sadly it looks like some are protecting the wrong doers by doing this.

It is wrong to defend anyone who takes the name of God and uses it to play with guns and cause pain to others. And I mean anyone who uses the name of God-not just Muslims (this is my opinion...).

If all those who wasted their time on believing that we must kill others to gain a place in heaven concentrated on the real problems of the world (e.g. Aids, children dying of drinking dirty water....) the world would be a much better place.

The thing is, not all Muslims protect terrorists or make up excuses for them. Most Muslims are just normal people getting on with their lives like you and I. The media just can't be bothered to show normal people. They get more views if they show 10 lunatics yelling "jihad", burning flags or celebrating a terrorist attack than if they showed a million normal Muslims feeling bad about the attacks, but carrying on with their lives the same way non-Muslims do.

Please also note that a lot of Muslims don't even know what's going on in the world. Not everyone has as easy access to world news as we do.

But why don't they do something about the ones that are?

Dude simply put you have to think outside the box on this one. Islam is just a religion. Iraq, Iran,Saudi etc all have different cultures. The terrorist are not necessarily part of the same culture they are blowing up mind you. Its the same with Christians they have murders and killers that go to church. However its the church thats not blamed. Its their upbringing or their parents think about that.

Why are they so quick to protect them?

Not all of them are.

Why do they keep making excuses for the terrorist?

Not all of the do.

What would you like me as a Scottish Muslim living in England to do about terrorists? Do you think i know them personally? Do you think our faith knows where and who they are? In what way am i protecting them i would like to know? What excuses am i making for them?
What faith are you? Where do you live? What are you doing about Bush and Blair the two biggest terrorists in the world right now? Nothing?
Why don't you do something about them?
Why are you so quick to protect them?
Why do you keep making excuses for these two terrorist?
Am i making a few assumptions on your behalf, do you think?
Then don't make assumptions about Muslims and what they do.
Why is it alot of non Muslims think that somehow all other Muslims know and support terrorist? That stereotype never gets old, does it????

Islaam is a religion of peace and submission and stresses the sanctity of human life. A verse in the Quran says (Chapter 5, verse 32), that anyone who saves one life, it is as if he has saved the whole of mankind and anyone who has killed another person except (in lieu of murder or mischief on earth), it is as if he has killed the whole mankind." Islaam condemns all violence which happened in the Crusades, in Spain, in the 2nd world war, or by acts of people like the Rev. Jim Jones, David Koresh, Dr. Baruch Goldstein, or the atrocities committed in Bosnia by the Christian Serbs. Anyone who resorts to violence is not practicing his religion at that time. However, sometimes violence is a human response of oppressed people as in Palestine. There is a lot of terrorism and violence in areas where there is no Muslim presence. For example, in Ireland, South Africa, Latin America, and Sri Lanka. Sometimes violence is due to a struggle between those who have and those who do not have, or between those who are oppressed with those who are oppressors. Unfortunately, the Palestinians who are struggling against oppression are called terrorists but not the armed Israeli settlers when they do the same. As it turned out in the Oklahoma City bombing, sometime Muslims are prematurely blamed even if the terrorism is committed by non-Muslims. God does permit defensive wars against organized oppression. Sometimes some misguided Muslims turn to violence as happens with all religions and countries of the world. To call all Muslims terrorists is completely false. Islaam is a religion of peace, harmony and submission to the laws of God Almighty.

There have been many Muslims who have spoken against terrorists and people who "claim" to be following Islam. Who speaks for Islam? If the media want to know something about Christianity they go to the Pope or the Arch Bishop. If they want to know something about Islam they go to the extremist guy they can find. And it is these people don't get the media coverage.

This is a big problem take a look at the following:

I think it's a common link that leads people to defend others that they might not even agree with. For instance, if someone attacked Catholicism because of the priests that molest little boys, most Catholics would jump to their defense. I think it's just an affront to an "organization", per se, that you belong to. It's an excellent question though. I hope someone gives a more thorough and analytical answer.

Because 'THEY' are all over the world doing other stuff. Like having a family, working, giving to charity, preaching their religous stuff, having BBQ's, weddings, some are at war, some are fighting each other. Its a mixed bag like christianity. Not all of them are against the motives, some have much more information on the situation than yourself and are aiding someone. Its there people so they will no doubt have alot more concern for them than non muslims.

i respect u so much and the respect goes too to Cjunk....
his answer was reasonable...but i wanna add something we dont make excuses for terrorist cuz terrorist has no relegion, those r some bad people who hide behind the name of Islam and Islam didnt tell us to kill or to do such bad things...i myself deny those kind of people...why can't we live in a world full of peace, muslims and christians and jews together...with some respect for all other relegions...believe me muslims who follow the Islam in the right way have very good characters, they r not bad...if u read the quran, u will discover how peacful is this relegion....
