How lovely,.....you will need a litter tray and litter,a cosy bed, food bowls and cat spoons, food and toys. Register him at your local vets too. When you get a new kitten you should only let them into one or two rooms to begin with as anymore can make them feel overwhelmed. And not too much noise, music visitors etc. good luck.

You'll need a plastic litter tray and a bag of litter (I like the Catsan one). You'll need a plastic scoop for taking the solids out of the tray and some baby nappy sacks for putting them in before you put them in the wheelie bin (they're very smelly in kittens). You'll need at least 2 plastic bowls (one for food, one for water). You might also want a third bowl for dry food. You'll need kitten food (I use the sachets of Felix) and some dry food (Go-Cat kitten or any other kitten food such as Iams). You don't need to bother about a brush or collar at this stage as they're too small. You don't need to buy them a bed or scratching post because they never use them. I advise keeping them indoors until they are used to you and then install a cat flap. You should also check with the person you are buying them from if they have had their immunisations against feline leukemia and catflu as well as being wormed. If not you will have to make an appointment with the vet for this. You should also think about having them neutered / spayed as this will stop them wandering far away. You will need a plastic carrying box for taking him/her home lined with a small blanket and for taking them to the vets/catteries. I found the pet supermarket on the internet very useful for all these things. You might also want to buy some solution from the pet shop for using on your carpets in case of any accidents by your kitten.

As for welcoming your pet - leave them to sleep as much as you can as kittens need their sleep. You should allow them to come to you rather than chasing them around for a cuddle no matter how excited you are that they're there. I got 2 kittens at the same time - brother and sister and they really are company for each other. I would seriously consider getting a second cat if you can as they don't cost any extra and play with each other.

I think it is a good idea to introduce the kitten to one room to start with, let him/her get used to its new surroundings.
Water & food bowl.
Litter tray is an obvious must and a bed which is their own space and will not be invaded by us humans. As soon as you set up the room, make sure the kitten knows where the litter tray is by putting him/her in it. You might be lucky and the kitten might already know what to do with a litter tray. If not you will need to train them, but it doesn't take too long.
Toys, especially things on strings which they can run around after.
If you will want it to go out, I would get it used to wearing a collar now. The older it gets the less acceptable it is to change.

Have fun with your new addition to your family!

If kitty is going to be alone all day try a water fountain, makes sure your little darling has plenty of fresh water all day, loads of toys - especially catnip like dickie suggests, drives em bananas. A really good treat is a radiator catbed, hangs over a radiator (funnily enough) with a fleece lined bit to sleep in, cats love being warm, ours go nuts for the radiator beds.

As for bringing a new cat into your home let it have a good rummage around to get a feel for the place, and if you can provide it somewhere a few feet off the ground with a little hidey-hole to burrow into, new houses and strange people/smells could make kitty nervous so give it somewhere higher up as a bolt hole to escape to but where they can still see whats going on around - this will stop kitty getting stressed - and then its less likely to start spraying everywhere to mark territory.

But the best thing is lots of cuddles :)

A litter box with scoopable litter, a good quality kitten chow, toys like fuzzy balls and a brush. Use a glass bowl for water and keep it clean and fresh.
I strongly recommend a buddy for your kitten. As in another kitten. Cats who have pals aren't lonely when you go away for an hour or a couple of days and have another creature to identify with, play with. There isn't much difference in adding a second one financially and you'll get more comic relief than you know what to do with!!!!

if it is going to be and indoor cat buy the kitty litter and the litter box, food, some toys, small balls, anyting that you can pull around and they can chase, food and water bowl...

when you bring the kitten home bring it into a room where you can close the door and sit on the floor with it... let it check out the room and play with you for a while... then let it roam the house while keeping a close eye on it of course. with the litter, if it is going to be an indoor cat once in a whie pick the cat up and put it in the litter box... this will teach the kitten where it is located.. owning a kitten in pretty much easy, just spend lots of time with it and play with it as much as you can.

When I got my two kittens we shut them in one room for about a week and just let them get used to their surrooundings. We then started letting them out into the rest of the house under supervision. It is important not to let your kitten outside until he/she has had his/her vaccinations. I would also suggest that you don't let him/her outside unsupervised for a while as you don't want him/her to get lost.

As far as acessories go you need a food and water bowl (preferably metal or ceramic as plastic ones scratch easily and can start to smell). You also need a litter tray - get as big a one as you can find as cats can be fussy about their toilet habits - litter (try to use the same brand he has been used to up until now); a scratching post is useful as he WILL try to scratch anything in site!

You also need toys! In my opinion the best toy a kitten can have is another kitten! They keep each other entertained and will be company when you are not around. Cats like to hunt so get toys like mice on a string that you can encourage them to chase and balls with a bell inside. A good pet store will have plenty of toys to choose from.

My two are now nearly 9 months old and are very well adjusted little people, I hope your kitten turns out the same!

You will need the following:
Food and water bowls
Bed
Coller (with bell)
Kitty Litter & Tray
Toys (Mouse,balls,ect...)

As for welcoming it to it's new home, try not to scare it to much for the 1st few days... Let it have some time to settle in. Give it a warm water bottle and a clock that ticks (The sound of the mothers heart) Wishing your feline friend a fun future!

Well you are gunna need litter box, food bowls, food for kittens (do not buy iams!!!) a few toys, and a bed. when you bring kitty home he is gonna be really jumpy as he doesnt recognise the smell of your place, just keep your eye on him and let him explore. It may take him a while to settle. I have 3 exotic persians, very temperamental! A good tip for babies missing mummy is a hot water bottle in their bed (not too hot) and an alarm clock, the warmth and ticking is comforting as it reminds them of the warmth nd heart beat of their mother. make sure you show him where his ;litter tray and food lives. x

Cat litter and tray. Small feeding bowl, water bowl and kitten food. The best toy if you can find one is like fishing rod with a dangly bit on the end. Buy a scratching post or pad. When he is a bit older, buy him a bed that hooks over the radiator.

Let him bimble around and find his way in your house and leave him alone. he will come to you when he wants to and is comfortable.
