My daughter is graduating in June from high school. - I'm anal about planning everything well ahead of time. Need some easy ideas/recipes for the usual, casual backyard buffet. (want to stand out but keep it low cost too) Got a twist for macaroni salad? Baked beans? I need help!

We do a lot of outdoor entertaining, and also some grand parties. But one that always works a treat is a huge vat of Heinz tomato soup on a heater, with hot crusty bread and butter, along with the world's supply of good frankfurters, soft rolls, a big pan of beautifully soft caramelised onions, all the relishes you can find and - of course - American mustard in a squirty bottle!

Some salads on the side and you're there. It's self-service, takes minimal preparation, and leaves you free to mix with guests. We did this with a load of quite posh people on firework night and they all loved it - maybe some kind of reverse snobbery? But it works.

You could do a Hawaiian / Caribbean BBQ Theme. You could buy those plastic lai's, have people dress in hawaiian shirts, sandals and etc.

Keeping the tropical theme in mind - try to incorporate tropical foods. You could do some sort of chicken marinated in a lime type of sauce.

If you do go with this theme, here is a desert that will surely be a killer - Stella D'Oro Cream Puffs....

1 - 3 oz pkg cream cheese, softened
1 - 6 oz can crushed pineapple
1 - pkg Stella D'Oro Anginetti Cookies, cut in half
1 - pkg Cool Whip

In a large mixing bowl combine the cool whip and cream cheese. beat on low with a hand mixer, til smooth. fold in pineapples.

On one half of the cookie, put about 1 tbsp of filling and top with other half of cookie. Repeat process til all are made.

These are so yummy, and addictive...your guests will love them.

the easiest would be BBQ or hotdogs, hamburgers, chips dip, that whole deal. Thats what most of the graduation parties did that I went to. At my graduation party we actually had a crawfish boil. I'm from a cajun family so we like spicey stuff and crawfish is not really that difficult. You can also have somebody Cater your party. you could have almost any food you wanted that way. I know alot of resturaunts cater. Or you could just buy some of those HUGE sub sandwhiches and serve it.

This weekend i tried a chip dip that was VERY good. All you need to do is mix salsa with ranch dressing and have tortilla chips to eat it with. You can make it as thick or as runny as you want. I thought it was a strange idea but it tasted sooooo yummy. Cheap and easy! Good luck with the party!
