Why is it that most people involved in Religion to the extreme lack the ability to question? Just curious ...

It seems as they are programmed robots that respond automatically with a verse from the bible. What is so bad about questioning Religion? Do you think Religion is Perfect? Why don't you question it? Why don't you wonder, think for yourself, and not let the Church think for You?

Thanks CT. See what I mean? You are able to have a perfectly rational explanation with me. Most extreme religious people are not able to do that. I wouldn't consider my self an extreme non-believer. I am constantly questioning. I do think there is a creator as nothing can't exist from nothing, though I still am always questioning.

For today's experiment we're going to describe 3 dimensional objects in 2 dimensions only - ready? What's an elephant look like?

Now let's put 5 people that are absolutely certain that they have uncovered the "true" shape of this elephant into a room and let them go at it... (an adaptation of the blind men and the elephant story)

Having uncovered the "shape" of the left foot of the thing that can't properly be described in mere words, many people hang on for dear life believing that they will be left with nothing if they give up or try to understand more.

And that is your answer. Some people are willing to line up with their brand of religion and close their mind off to any alternative. It is quite possible that "perfect" people of the past (or people perfectly guided by God) have lined up the religious rules that they follow and any deviation is blasphemy.

The fact that there are multiple groups with conflicting views that have all been perfectly guided by God is not their problem - all of the other people are misguided...

Other people are not so willing to judge, or are open to the idea that people are - well - people, and perfectly imperfect people at that. And that if God is everywhere and part of everything, there is value in all. Value in considering the insights everyone else has to offer.

--

I'd love to take credit for the 3 / 2 dimensional logic, but it comes from "Flatland: A romance of many dimensions" by Edwin A. Abbott. (Long dead, but an insightful person none the less ;-)

I recommend the very short, easy to read book for believers of any (or no) faith.

Why is it that we should expect anyone's faith to be perfect for anyone else?

I don't think it is the "lack to question".
I think they have made their minds up.

1+1= 2
You know longer have to think about that. Same way with someone who has found freedom through Christ.

I'm concerned about your choice of words. "extreme". Who are these people? I know believers and nonbelievers.

Is if fair to categorize you as a extreme nonbeliever? I would not do that.

I have no problem with your questioning. That is how you learn! However, your questions seems to lend the answer you want to hear. You're not truly going to learn anything until you have an open mind. Your question seems closed off to me.

good luck, I hope you find the answers to your questions.

Many people of faith question. Faith is not meant to be blind. In contrast I see the militant view of secularists as equally disturbing. Extreme views no matter what side are always wrong.

The bible along with many other religious books tells us to learn and question, so it is part or our doctrine.

We not all crazy.

I think it is partially because some people feel more comfortable being told what to do, how to act, etc.. Some just refuse to contemplate the fact that their parents may have been wrong about something. Still others are out there looking for some reason for thier existence and become brainwashed.

Im sure they all have those questions but are just afraid to say them out loud. after all the do want to get into heaven and if they doubt things they may ruin their chances.

People are supposed to back up what they say. How many
criticizers on here ever back up what they say with something
other than thier opinion. I never see any logical explanation for their opinion, only criticizing.
