Continental Airlines. I worked there for too many years & while I worked there it seemd the emphasis was on customer service & appreciation, after 9/11, they just tried to survive so could care less about their employees not to mention their customers. If you want the inside track on an airline, ask if the employees are happy because that's a reflection on how the customers will be treated hands down. They were also the first to try & capitalize on 9/11 asking the gov. for handouts by laying off 1000 employees in Denver, CO. Although they would never admit that they were having financial difficulties long before 9/11 happened. Pretty pathetic!!

Southwest is pretty bad - the no assigned seating deal is pretty sketchy. United is really the worst though. I have flown literally 200 times in the past couple years, and exactly 3 of those times were on United. Those were the only 3 times that I have had my luggage get lost, 2 of those 3 times I got bumped from a flight for no reason (or because of United's incompetence), and those were the only 3 times I faced rude airline employees. Fortunately I asked for the names of the airline employees who were rude and told them I was going to file a complaint against them personally.
I fly American the most, and USAirways. (Close to 200,000 miles on each) and they are both great (granted, maybe it's because I'm a frequent flier). Northwest Airlines is also good.

Without a doubt it's Northwest.
On a flight from Chicago to London there was a mechanical problem before we left Chicago, so they left the runway and got mechanics on board. We sat there on the plane for five hours because they would not let us off. It took them an hour before they let anyone out of their seat for any reason - even to use the bathroom - and when people tried to get up the flight attendants actually yelled at them. Yes, they raised their voices, no exaggeration. Finally, three hours in they let us have water, but no food. They never let us have food ( I guess because we still had the 7 hour flight to London), but not even peanuts.
This was all prior to September 11th in the US. This was back in 1998. During this time, Northwest was in the process of being sued by people this exact thing had happened to a couple of months earlier, but I think they were left on the plane a lot longer. This has happened several times since then with Northwest, there was one very recently I saw on CNN.
I also have to say that once a plane has had mechanical difficulties, and the crew are not forthright with you on the reason, it makes you very uneasy to know you have a 7 hour flight ahead of you on that same plane.
I have not since, nor will I ever, take Northwest again.

Thats an interesting question. In this day an age there is not all that much difference. I bet if 100 people answred this question you would get 10 different answers or more. It just depends on personal experiece and preference. On any given day you are probably just as likely to get rude service, delays, and lost luggage from one airline to another.
Personally, I really dislike Southwest because they dont give out seat assignments and it feels like a free for all when you board the plane sometimes. Other then that, they all seem about the same to me.

Depends what you want. Northwest seems to have the rudest people working and are the least cooperative. But by what I've seem their flights seem to go failrly on time. Anything through Chicago is more likely to delay or cancel. If you fly a United connection flight (a commuter plane to/from a smaller destination) then odds seem fairly high of cancelling.

Southwest is my least favorite because it's like riding the bus. Continental is my second least favorite because their seats are closer than any other airline.
My experience has shown that they are all pretty bad until you acquire enough status to reach the elite level in their frequent flyer program. Then they treat you like a king.
